If you look at your auto store you can find this type of washer fluid. Do not use washer the pump if it is not pumping fluid or you will burn it out. If you have a garage pull your auto into it and let the lines thaw. This is the first thing I would check. If you look at your auto store you can find this type of washer fluid. I haven't heard of any fuel injected car being fitted with such a switch, except the inertia type switch that cuts the power supply to the pump - as you can hear the pump running that won't be your trouble.
A good fuel pump well supplied with fuel and power is capable of enough pressure to burst some fuel hoses if the fuel line is blocked - therefore the system self bleeds and circulates through the pressure regulator and back to the tank through the return line.
When the engine isn't running the pump will run for about four seconds and cut off until the engine cranks. When the fuel line is empty, only a few seconds of cranking is needed to fill and pressurise the system.
If that isn't happening, it is probably a good idea to revisit the installation and ensure the pump is running in the right direction and the intake is clear of obstruction (no water in the fuel, gauze clear, etc.).
check the washer fluid canister to see if you can hear the pump. If so, then check screen in tank and hoses and spray nozzles for clogs. If you cannot hear pump when you press the button, check the fuse and the wiring to the canister.
Fords have a common problem with their washer pumps. for the last 12 years ford have fitted a plastic mesh over the inlet to the washer pump, this blocks up with the build up of crystalized washer fluid. fords official protocol says to use a small sharp object the size of a pencil to peirce the mesh and allow the flow of water. Also most washer bottles can be accessed via the front wheel arch. simple undo the fixings and pull the innier plastic wheelarch out the way and pull the pump out of the bottle. they are never fixed in just wedged in.
I have a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. I could hear the washer pump working but no fluid was coming out. We blew the lines with an air compressor and air came through all nozzles, that did not solve the problem. Long story short, we discovered the turbine in the pump was foaming up the fluid that was in the tank. We emptied the fluid (possibly bad batch of fluid) put straight water in the tank and the washers are now working fine. Unfortunately we dont know when the fluid was filled last or the batch number, we only know that it was the blue. I will buy new fluid tomorrow. It is unfortunate that a 1.99 bottle of fluid could cause so much problems and expenses for some. Hope this helps someone.
You will need a test light/probe to check wether you have power to the windscreen washer bottle motor. If you have power at the motor and it doesnt pump you will need to replace it.Because the wipers are still working its unlikely to be a power supply issue. Can you hear the motor trying to pump when you activate it?If you can hear motor humming then you may have blocked nozzles.Usualy a small sewing needle poked down the squirter nozzles will clear them. Also make sure your water squirter hoses are not blocked and havnt fallen off.
