If the moter says sohc on the valve cover that means the cam is in the head but most ford V6 motors have the cam in the block making it have pushrods.

thank you there should also be a sticker infront of the radator or under the hood that will tell you more about the motor.

The camshaft requires a large sprocket to turn it, so if the cam is up in the head, there has to be a large cover for the timing belt that goes up to the head and for the large sprocket coming out of the head. You can't see anything like this on a push rod engine because the sprocket and camshaft is down inside the block.

Can you change a 55re and a 1l3p-7000 in a 2002 ford explorer will it interchange

Check the 8th digit of your vin and the letter (engine) is probably listed as "W". This engine was used in the 03-04-and 05 models. Take note though I purchased a 2000 V6 explorer new which was suppose to come with the 4.0 V6 SOHC engine. A year of so later I was doing some minor work and noticed I had the old 4.0 pushrod engine in the vehicle. I immediately check with Ford and learned some leftover engines from model year 1999, which used both V6 engines, were installed in the 2000 model. I was instructed to check the engine code with the vin. Sure enough the code was for the older engine. Using an engine with the same engine code should work.

How can I tell if I have the SOHC or pushrod 4.0litre engine in my 2000 Ford Explorer Sport?

The vin number is the easiest way to tell for sure, if you can give me the vin i can help you with that, also typically the sohc has a engine cover that says sohc. Please rate this answer as that is my only compensation. Thankyou
