I recently had a problem with a low frequency wheel noise from the left rear. It is not a high pitch metal brake sound, it is more like a huming. It statrs at 15MPH. I rotated and re balance the tires with no change. There is no shake or vibration felt , just a sound. If I put the trans in neutral while moving it has no effect.
That was my first thought, but I only have 36k miles on this vehicle and have followed the maintenance schedule well. That was my first thought, but I only have 36k miles on this vehicle and have followed the maintenance schedule well.

I have a 07 rx 350 with the same kind of noise from the back wheels. I took it to the dealership and the problem was my left rear wheel bearing and they change it with no charge thank to the lexus warranty.I have a 07 rx 350 with the same kind of noise from the back wheels. rear wheel bearings but without a drive i couldnt tell you ,sadly some people are deaf to certain frequencys of sound and i think you mechanic whos obviously very good but a bit mutton jeff at certain pitches of sound, myself untill recently with the onset of old timers could hear a dog whistle and it drove me nuts hearing souinds no one else could .
I had some issues with my 2005 explorer left rear. It was making a creepy old door sound at low speeds and then a high pitched whisel at high speeds. That turned out to be a broken wheel bearing and had it replaced. Note each wheel has two wheel bearings. After that a new noise developed that sounded like metal scraping/ grinding metal. It end up being the brake dust cover got bent when they replaced the bearing and it was rubbing something, the fix for that was bending it so it didn't rub. I hope this helps.
The first thing I would do is inspect the brakes. The brake pads have a metal indicator that will start to rub when the pads get low. It will make a really annoying high pitch squeal.
It could also be a condition known as metallic squeal. This would be a metallic particle in the brake pad that is causing the noise. Replacing the pads is a guaranteed fix for this.
It could also be a backing plate rubbing or any number of things.
Checking the brakes would be a good first step.

You have a bad rear hub bearing. It at times starts as a low humming sound, then will increase to a screeching sound..you can jack the car up and have both rear wheels off the ground palce your hands at 12 and 6 pm and try to check for loseness.also if you have a creeper, just to eliminate a bad carrier bearing you can check the axle near the differential by checking it for play also. But I am leaning very much towrds the hub bearing.I have changed several of these...
Is the noise a screeching high pitch or a growling low pitch?
It sounds to me that the CV joints might be bad and you need brakes.
high pitch would be the brake warning tabs
the low pitch would be the brake pads are gone and you are on the rotors gringing away metal
This sounds like you are hearing the brake pad squealer which is put on all pads to warn of brake failure due to low levels of material left on the pad,you should get the pads replaced soon, but if it just started then you can still drive it safely for a short time.
The high pitch sound may come from the brake pads as metal parts hit the disc to signal the owner that it needs change. The metal parts gets exposed when the pads have worn out. The brake also has a hub to cover the disc. See if the metal plate is hitting it but this issue would appear when the wheels are in motion. Check if it is the belts, have the tension checked out. Other than that the bearings are the other items on your wheel that could cause a high pitched sound when you car is in motion.
Sure sounds like you need new brake pads. On the brake pad is a small metal tab that contacts the rotor and squeals when the pads need to be changed. Hope this helps. Please keep me posted. Good luck
