the red brake warning lamp will illuminate if a: there is a base brake problem (low fluid) check the fluid leve if low find out now where it is going, low or worn out pads/shoes, or B: the e brake pedal is not ruturing all the way up, try pulling on the release handle while pulling the pedal up, if that fixes it find out why the pedal is falling probably needs a new ebrake pedal or new cables
The most basic check for this is - is your battery up to 100% efficiency. the handbrake module is notorious for faults with low voltage or voltage dips. Next is to check that the brake pads and cables are free and in good condition (pads not worn too far down) as these can cause fault indications. The fact that the park-brake still works and does not jam on or off would indicate that the major components are still working and may just need some attention and recalibrating. T o try a recalibration of the park brake - disconnect your battery for 10 Min's (make sure you have your radio code as this will be needed on reconnect) when battery reconnected follow the instructions on your driver display panel and see if this improves your problem.
hope this helps - good luck.
