they wear in the slip joint and any looseness in the "U" joints will cause a harmonic vibration that comes and goes

SOURCE: 4wd to 2wd

Ok i'm no expert but if you're trying to get the front axles out you will need to take the hubs apart and it should all disconnect somewhere around the cv's. If you take your time and think about what you're doing it won't be that hard a job.

Alternativly the simple solution is to leave the front end complete and only remove the front propshaft. By doing this and just leaving the hubs disengaged none of the front end will turn and you will have 2wd. This option also means that if you come accross a cheap transfer case later on down the track you won't have to worry about putting the front end back together.

Hope thats some help to you. - Neil

You need someone with a high level scan tool computer to scan for codes, and the live data to see what went wrong.

You need to check for a bad fuse or relay. Also there may be a speed sensor problem in the transfer case. Perform an OBDII scan before doing any repairs. this stuff is complicated and expensive. Let the ODBII scan be your guide to avoid buying parts you don't need. The 4WD drive train and axels, should have been serviced at 80,000 miles. (2004 ?)

Hello nasenterpris
You would notice somthing if the transfer case engaged, even if the hubs did not. The first thing I'd do, before crawling in the snow is to stop by my mechanics or an autozone and have the OBDII
scanner hooked up to see if any DTC codes poped. A 4wd related code may not set the mil light
on the dash. There is a 4wd ctrl. module and a few switchs+solnoids located under the truck under
the hood and under the dash that are 4wd related and if there is a trouble code it can narrow the
search greatly. In the meantime you can check these fuses that are either directly or in directly

I have a 2001 F250 Superduty 7.3l Diesel. When I

I had a problem with vacuum in my F250 diesel. It had a new vacuum pump but would kick out of cruise control every time the vacuum pressure dropped. It turned out to be the vacuum reserve cannister had holes in it.

Seems you reach a tipping point and then all the vacuum systems mess up. You might want to check the reserve cannister and any vacuum servo your 4x4 might have. You can check most of the vacuum stuff with the engine OFF using a vacuum pump. You could have a leaking vacuum pot operating the ductwork. Check your diesel vacuum pump for output and loose belts.
