99 honda civic lx is having some unknown problems

First i have been having problems with my gas gage it will be on like a half tank and the next minute it will go all the way to E or even below E and then shoot back up... the next problem i have been having is that when i was driving the car would cut out the RPMS and the MPH would drop and i would loose all steering. i would let the car coast over and then the lights would pop on and it would make an electrical noise. after that i would turn it off and then wait turn it back on and sometimes it wouldnt but if i got it to turn back on it would turn on all the way and then just die again. We were told to check the fuel pump we changed it. we did a tune-up. the car seemed to run fine for a few weeks then the same thing started again. so we went to the next thing and changed the ignition switch. so far it doesnt seem to have much problems because it doesnt shake anymore and the air bag sensor isnt flashing on every so often. but my headlights and dash lights are still flashing. what could that be and does it sound like the ignition switch may have been the problem? what is up with the lights? and the gas gage? please help me.... im so confused....

The gas gauge problem is the simplest problem, and actually a pretty common one. The sending unit in the gas tank has a blank spot (for lack of a better word). When the gauge hits that spot, it gets no signal and goes to empty. If it does this for only a certain level of gas, this is the problem. If the level of gas is irrelavent, then it might be related to your other problems.
When the car "cuts out" you say the tach and speedometer quit working. That means you have lost electricity to those parts. I would concentrate on searching for an electrical short. The very first thing I would do is thoroughly clean the battery cables. Electrical problems are the most difficult car problems to diagnose, so, Good Luck.

1988 honda civic fuse box gas gauge fuse

I don't think it has a fuse.....The sender for the gage is integrated into the fuel pump assy. the 1988 is probably ready for a fuel pump....This will probably correct the gage problem....I have an 1988 accord, the pump is accessible through a removable panel in the trunk.....I think the civic has to drop the tank.....Just use the odometer to keep from running out of gas....just base Your MPG on 30 miles per gallon to be safe..........

1999 Honda Civic, special edition , engine light on thank you

The check engine light in honda 99 come on mostly when you have bad gas tank cup,or you dont tight enouhg the gasoline tank cup,you can see if the problem of the check engine light is from what i talking about, going to any autozone and request the obd scanner,at no charge just leave your driver license or credit card, conect the scanner follow the isntructions,if the code in the scanner is p 1456,then the problem is that above,so dont panic car is almost normal, just give extra snap to the fuel tank cup and the check engine will come off in the next 3 to 5 days.

Why is my honda hesistaing

simply add a can of SEAFOAM(parts store) to a 1/2 tank of Premium gas, and let it idle for 5 minutes. You've got water and corn by product in your lines from the ethanol gas. Common problem now EGS(ethanol gas syndrome). Give it a chance to work.
