I have a 98 Buick Century with the factory cassette/radio. I want to use the tape adapter to play my IPOD through the stereo. It will work for a few seconds or sometimes a few minutes but then spit the tape out and give the E14 error. The tape adapter is brand new, just bought today so I know there is nothing wrong with it. Can this problem be fixed or is the adapter never going to work in this radio?

Those adapters are barely functional at best. You will never get good sound, even if it was working perfectly. I tried one but then bought an aftermarket stereo.

SOURCE: Have a cassette stuck in my 98 Buick Century Custom

sometime you can get luck by taking out the tape player and there will be a small hole somewhere on the player that you can stick a paper clip through to release the tape player. Otherwise gnetly stick a screwdriver under the tape to see if you can get it to release. no guarntees on that last one

SOURCE: 98 Buick Century: Odometer Doesn't work; Shift lights don't ...

I was told that the bulb blew out when this happened to my car and you have to remove the dashboard to replace it. As far as the heat and air I had to replace the blower motor and the problem was solved. Buy one of those $20 car manuals, that's how i usually figure out whats wrong.

You should take it to a rad shop and get the whole cooling system cleaned and flushed, then pressure tested to eliminate it before goig any furter because an y other cause of overheating is going to cost you a bundle.

Getting that radio out of the dash is a chore. Taking the radio itself apart is worse. Have a shop give you an estimate.

E 10 tape deck error/ tapes keep spitting out

The radio checks to make sure the drive capstan is turning - if not, gives the E10 error. Either the drive belt in the radio is slipping or the drive wheel in the adapter is sticking. If it does it with a real cassette, then it's probably the drive belt. If not, you can try to figure out why the wheel in the adapter is not turning freely.

How do you remove the trim around the factory

Unfortunately it has been a few years since I've removed the dash in my sisters 95 century(same setup as yours)... but I came across something that should give you some decent pointers.

http://www.pdfee.com/autos-how-to/99-4544-installation-instructions

that is a link to a pdf, which, on Page 3 gives a basic text description of what you need to remove in order to get the dash trim off and gain access to the radio. If that link does not work, here's the link the page from which you can download the above mentioned file also...
