When a lean emisson code is present it basically means that the engine is getting to much air and not enough fuel, start checking the basics, look for vacumm lines that may have popped off or deteriorated vacumm lines allowing extra air to enter the intake system, next check your intake manifold gasket, you usually could check this very easily get a can of carb and choke cleaner and spray it all around where the intake meets the cylinder head if the engines idle increases or it starts to have a rough idle the intake manifold gasket is bad and should be replaced with a new one.....
Another thing you can look into if your vehical has one is the mass air flow sensor make sure thats working properly, a lean code means the computer CANNOT compensate fuel for the amount of air entering the engine, theres to much air and it cannot add enough fuel to properly mix with the amount of air...

Possible Causes:
Test for fuel contamination. Small amounts of water can be delivered to the fuel injectors and cause a lean exhaust indication. A lean exhaust indication can also be caused by too much alcohol in the fuel. Refer to Alcohol/Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis .The system will go lean if an injector is not supplying enough fuel.A lean condition could be present during high fuel demand due to a fuel pump that does not pump enough fuel.Review the Failure Records with a scan tool.
