Sounds like you may have ran the engine out of oil or low on oil causing the oil pressure to drop and turning on your oil pressure light does the engine crank or rotate at all when trying to start it or does it just click? If the engine doesnt rotate theres a good chance you seized the engine up because of low oil pressure and you may be looking at another engine..... not good news.

I forgot to mention if your oil level is ok, theres a good chance theres a problem with your oil pump or oil delivery system within the engine.....

would my engine be seized in this case also?

  • Anonymous Dec 08, 2010

If it was run low or out of oil and when you try to start it if the engine wont rotate its more then likely seized because the crankshaft bearings were starved of oil and got severly damaged....

Why would my Pontiac start with a loud rattling noise?

Brown Milky Oil sounds like your head gasket has gone and coolant water is mixing with engine oil. Unless you have an oil cooler, it may be from there.

You can locate the rattling if you get someone to start it with the hood up.

Your engine oil light is a problem. You may have run out of oil and if the engine is run with too low of an oil level it can seize up. You may need to have that engine replaced. This is why it is important to check the oil regularly and to have it changed per manufacturer's recommendations.

First of all, oil expands when hot, so you cant check oil level when your car has been running. It sounds like your car is leaking oil. Check for leaks under the car. I would tow the car to a mechanic. If you are lucky it will just take an oilchange to get the car running. But you are likely looking at at least new gaskets/bearings and in worst case new priston rings.

4JX1 engine cut off while test drive after oiland filter change and not starting

That pop noise is ok just the flap in the throttle body coming open when the car stops .
The engine may have stopped because its low on oil so the oil pump for the injectors wont work - takes about 7 u.s. quarts of 5/30 fully synthetic oil at service time to run right.
It can also stop if the pressure sensor in the injector rail packs up or the oil pick up pipe for the injector system falls off due to cracking the mount .
