I have a warning light on that I don't know what it's for. (!)

any time a warning light comes on there is a problem that needs to be checked out. you don`t say what warning light comes on, oil light, check engine light, coolant light.

Did you try turning the wheel/knob next to the head light switch? It's the dimmer for your interior lights. Sometimes that happens and some ppl don't know about it. Not sure how familiar you are with it so thought I'd throw that out there.

It could be one of several - - if you tell me which side it is on and what it looks like I may be able to tell you what it means.

Hi Deborah, What light is coming on? If your vehicle has a clutch it is not automatic and I don't know of any manual gearbox fitted with a warning light. Please describe the light which is coming on. better still take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan and have the technician identify the fault(s) Regards John

No idea to be totally honest but can i suggest the inhibitor switch if its a auto

I do not know why the mechanic would suggest the SRS warning light relates to the traction control because it has absolutely nothing to do with the TC system.

SRS means "Supplementary Restraint System" - ie, the vehicles airbag system. If the warning light comes on the system has recognised that there is a fault with the airbag system which could mean it would not deploy as designed in the case of an accident. The causes of the warning light can be numerous including a failed sensor, a problem in the wiring or physical interference with the wiring, one of the electrical plug connections coming loose or being disconnected, a problem with the seat belt pretensioners etc etc.

You should take the vehicle to a dealer to have the problem properly diagnosed, rectified and the computer reset.

Normally the warning light will continue to display every time you start driving the vehicle until the cause of the problem is identified and the issue is fixed.

The airbag system is an important safety feature designed to eliminate or reduce injury in the case of an accident. Manufacturers do not include warning systems like this to annoy owners. Just ignoring the warning and looking for ways to just remove the warning would be irresponsible, especially if you are using the vehicle to also carry passengers.

It might be your tire pressure monitoring system. Try checking your tire pressures.

It depends on what warning light is on!
In any case, from your description and experience, it would be your engine 'Oil' warning light: it comes on when there is not enough lubrication (thus the overheating) flowing because of low oil pressure: immediately check your oil leveland top up as required) and make sure that change your oil and oil filter as soon as possible as it is a very damaging condition and the engine could seize.

Have someone check and see if the brake lights come on when you press the brake pedal..The warning lamp may indicate a fuse out to the brake light circuit--if the fuse is blown/faulty then the gearshift won't move, it needs to "see" the brake circuit is on before allowing the shifter to engage.

Once you have done that you can look at your cars owner's manual and it will tell you what each light is on the insturment panel and from there hopefully you can determine what is wrong.
