1999 Jeep Wrangler 2.5l, manual transmission. My jeep has started making a new noise. Seems to have popped up as it got cold and the colder it is the more I notice it. When I first start it up (cold morning) there is a load "whirling" sound. Sounds to me like something thats spinning. When I push in on the clutch it doesn't stop, but the "tone" of the whirling changes. Not louder or quieter, just s differnent tone. Seems to run fine (for now) and once the engine warms up it stops. If I leave my house and stop 3-4 miles away at the store, by the time I get to the store it's not doing it anymore. Any ideas?

Could be the clutch throwout bearing is running dry. Have a good tech take a listen...if I could hear it I'd be better able to tell you what it is.

Thanks. If it were to be the throwout bearing... what would I be looking at as far as repairs?

Transmission needs to come out.... That's why I said have it verified...don't want you spending $ if you don't need to.

SOURCE: 1995 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L Fuel Pump/Check engine light

Could be one of several items...I'd check the fuel pump relay, auto shutdown relay and the ignition switch itself. I'd bet on it being one of those relays but, we all have been fooled at least once!!! I'd also make sure that body and engine grounding is good and clean. Relays can't work properly without a good ground.

I have a 2004 jeep wrangler with a manual trans rattle in nutral

It's not normal, it sounds like the throwout bearing may be making the noise. It's hard to say how long it will hold up. I've seen them make noise for a while. I would check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder.

What type of motor oil does the 4.0 Liter use in the Jeep Wrangler?

I have ran 10w30 Syn Valvoline ever since it was new (after factory/break in oil was drained. I have 187,000 miles on her and still going strong! Some argue that I have wasted my money buying synthetic oil but the jury is still out on how many miles she has left. I live in a colder climate and have not had any issues.

I have a 90 jeep wrangler, 4cyl and 5 speed transmission, when i accelerate in any of the gears, it makes a popping noise and the second it makes that noise it seems like the jeep stops pulling, if you...

It sounds like it is the throw out bearing. From your description of the vehicle not pulling its weight, it is going to need a clutch. The throw out bearing will come in most clutch kits, so when you replace the clutch you can replace the throw out bearing, pressure plate, and pilot bushing.

Jeep starts sluggish and then wants to die

It is most likely from that actually. You may need to adjust the air / fuel mixture after modding the intake. Sounds like its getting too much air.
