2004 chevy malibu 4 cylinder seems like it is fighting for gas and it bogs down. there is crackling under the hood like rice crispies in milk.what could it be?

Try opening the hood at night and while the engine is running, carefully look for blue sparks around the plug wires. A lot of time when the wires get old, the electricity will arc to any metal parts that it can. Check along the whole length of the wires and down by the spark plugs. Also make sure all of the spark plug boots are properly connected to the spark plugs by pushing them on firmly when the engine is off.
