With foot on brake,shift into neutral,then engage either 4 wheel high or low depending on your conditions. Remember you should not drive faster than 40 mph in either 4 wheel. When you want to shift back into 2 wheel,foot on brake then into neutral & back into 2 wheel.

Yukon should be the floor shift 4x4 put the vehicle in neutral and shift into 4x4 wait a few seconds and the light should come on.. if it doesnt come on put the vehicle in drive let the vehicle roll forward a few inches and put back in neutral .. you might have to do this a few times to get it to work ... also go from reverse to neutral if it doesnt work then the compnent on the front axle is usually bad ..

You can shift between 2Hi and 4Hi when the truck is moving. Just let off the gas and shift it. But in order to shift to Neutral or 4Lo you need to stop the truck and shift the transmission into neutral then shift the transfer case.

2005 Ford Five Hundred. Once the car warms up and you try to come to stop without putting in neutral the car just revs high but won't move.

Question edited into written English.
Question moved to model category.

It sounds like you have and unusual and flawed driving technique.

Manual or Automatic?

Automatic. You never use neutral unless you are in a car wash that drags your car by the wheels. Decelerate, foot on the brake and into Park. Your right foot does both brake and accelerator, left foot does nothing. I saw a lady 2 days ago with left foot on the brake and right foot on the accelerator.

Manual. Downshift through the gears, right foot on the brake, left foot on the clutch and into neutral and hand brake on.

If you are doing that, the vehicle needs diagnosis why it is happening.

Car is running , can't put gear into park , will it restart if in neutral once I turn motor of?

try making sure you have your foot on the brake pedal, some cars won't come out or go into park without having you brake pedal depressed, if this fails you should see a specialist, most auto cars will start in neutral depending on age, but MAKE SURE THE HAND BRAKE IS ON HARD, good luck.

2005 yukon will no go in to park

Put foot on brake push shifter all way up. Lol. Seriously of it doesnt go into park your transmission is messed up. Teeth likely broke inside blocking the shift ability. Not common at all. If someone slammed it into park while driving could cause this.

Shifter sticks in park

when parking put into neutral put on the hand brake and take your foot off the brake allowing the car to settle against the brake then put it into park, this should eliminate the sticking in park as the cars loading the brake not the transmission

The parking brake in my chrysler pacific is stuck. how do u release it?

Is it a "stick" in the console between the driver and passenger seats, or is it a pedal you push down? If it is in the center console, try starting the car, putting it from park into NEUTRAL with your foot on the brake, and pull up on the stick a little while pushing in the button. If the button goes in, push the handle back down, put the car back into park, and take your foot off the brake. I'm not real familiar with the Pacifica, so a description of the parking brake would help.

I replaced transmission and now car dont start

Test the neutral switch.

===

Foot on brake

MOVE SHIFTER BACK FROM PARK AND NEUTRAL 10-20 times. This will re-new the metal contacts.

Shift to netural "N"

Start engine

Put lever back to Park "P" to warm up the truck.

====

If it start from neutral and not park then you will need a neutral safety switch.

Wouldn't ome out of park. possible neutral safty swich

sounds like the shifter interlock solenoid is not working..when you put your foot on the brake,there should be a click. there is a tab in the shifter assembly that can be pried out.it is a shift lock override. you can put the key down inside and get it out of park.that is there so in the case of a dead battery,the car can be put in neutral.
