Yes by disconneting the map sensor will drop idle and make run rough, the problem is the idle air control valve or a vacuum leak, try to clean the throtlebody with an old tooth brush and some throtlebody spray cleaner if that doesnt help then try having the iac valve checked the iac valve (Idle air control valve ) if with the engine running listen for a hissing noise that will be a vacuum leak, these are the most common reasons for higher than normal idle. hope this is helpful.

Why does my 420a 96 eclipse idle high at 2k and after running It goes up 4k idle? It has a miss fire and smells of gas when running. I have trouble codes p1294, p0443, p0340 any suggestion?

p0340 is the cam sensor, 0443 is the purge solenoid, 1249 is the wastegate on the turbo. The smell could be from 0443, it might be the solenoid on the evaporative system is bad or stuck, the cam error could be the sensor, wiring or the cam itself and the wastegate is the part of the turbo that dumps the excess compressed air that the engine does not need.

My car idles rough and a machine said the map sensor is running a little high.

If the map sensor is running high, manifold absolute pressure, then I would try checking for a vacuum leak somewhere, or, change the map sensor and see what happens.

Also, check plugs and wires for age.

1993 olds cutlass supreme 3.1 multi port loading up at idle

Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

96 eclipse.

Check for a vaccum leak at the intake. With the engine at idle spray a bit of starting fluid to find it. You will hear the engine pick-up when you hit the spot. Change the necessary gasket. Hopefully this will solve your prob! Frankster016
