I turned on veh- went to shift gears (drive) but it would not move. is there a button to override the shifter. its poss that when I placed the veh in park it may have rolled before i put it in park. Dodge Magnum 2005
I had the same problem. The interlock was not the problem. I had the shifter replaced (at my own expense because drive train warranty would not cover). After examining the old shifter discovered source of problem is a plastic cam on the front of ths shifter. A tiny PLASTIC ear which connects to a small spring had broken off. I repaired this by putting in a small screw where the ear had been. Incidentally, my tow truck driver had also seen the same problem on several Chrysler 300s. In my estimation this is a poor design on Chrysler's part.
I too had the problem... it was a tiny piece of plastic tip that hook onto a return spring...the tip brakes off, a the return spring looses tension. I temporary repaired mine with a small rubber ban..... but, when I go back into it I'm gonna try that tiny screw formula, (thanks). We save a whole lot of money being mechanical inclined. But we need to file a class action law suit.
im with u on that because the same thing happened to me today so i called dodge and they would not help me. i have a dodge magnum and my brother had a charger and we both have the same problem. we went on vacation and took a rental and left our cars home and came back from vacation and niether of us could get the cars out of park. he has a 2007 charger. looks noce but its a piece of ****. dodge basically politely told me to kick rocks. they know that is a know issue but they will not recall the vehicle,

Drill new hole just behind where the old spring eye use to be, then re-atach spring. Worked for me!
If your dodge magnum does not shift from park, remove the shift cover and and you'll notice a pink colored 'shifter interlock lever.' Barely push the pink lever toward the Drive position and it will release your shift from park. New 'shifter interlock lever' only cost me about $8.00 through the dodge dealer. (Also comes with replacement instructions). Chrysler should have recalled this. Too common of a problem... Hope this helps
Had the same problem with mine at about 30K miles. Dealer towed it and had to replace the linkage I believe
All this interlock does is, keeps you from returning your key to the "Lock" position when the shiter is not in park. If you think you can live without this safty then, just take the dang thing out. I have been driving my 05 Magnum without it for months now.
I got the same problem today with my 2007 dodge magnum, I am going to try the screw solution and see if it work or not. Thanks for the tips you guys.

my gear shifter won't come out of park
had the same problem at about 30K, the dealer had to tow it and replace the linkage
Went to start up my car (2005 Dodge Magnum) and I could not get it out of park. I made sure that my foot was on the brake and all. I did contact the dealership who told me about the pink button next to the gear shift (had to remove the little holder to the right of the gear shift) and that is the emergency release and that should work. No such luck. I was told by the dealership that a new shifter was needed on a 3-4 year old car which I found to be strange. Had to get the car towed and the tow truck guy said he had 2 dodge cars last week with the same problem. One the release did work but the other had a problem with the release being bad. Has anyone been able to fix this problem without having to replace the entire gear shifter?
i have the same problem on my dodge magnum 2005 i cant get the gear to shift from parking.can some one help me getting it fix my self, thanks
Had the same problem. It was a blown fuse for the brake lights. replaced fuse & it was fine.

my 2005 dodge magnum have the same problem. there are no leaks or anything. i don't even drive this car often. it has 36,000 miles. do anyone know how much tis repair cost? thank you very much
same problem, 40k miles. I had to turn the car on, hold the brake and pull on the shifter as hard as i could. Heard a loud snap and and shifted fine. have to take it to the dealer now to replace a part on the shifter preventing it from shifting without the brake being applied.
changed cap where coolant goes and put new antifreeze
overdrive rod not in place
let the car run 15 Min and the fans never came on
