Right behind the ignition is a little tab, pop it out and push the button with a screw driver. The key will release. Then open the trunk.

2010 HHR battery is dead and key is in ignition and won't come out and I can't open the trunk
If battery is completely dead on some newer cars, the key won't come out. Charge battery on a charger or get somebody to jump you. If you jump it, you may need to charge the dead car a bit first before removing the key or trying to start it.

Cannot open the luggage compartment of the maserati quattroporte battery is dead
Use the cars ignition key, insert into lock next to boot/trunk manual release. NB lean on boot/truck lid as you turn key otherwise you run risk of breaking the key. Boot will open.

This is very common, because your battery is dead your remote isnt going to work. So what you have to do is look by the license plate light bulbs, their is a key hole wear you can insert you key and open the trunk to charge/ or jump start your battery
