I have a 2003 Expedition 5.4L Triton. Two days ago, with low gas (38 miles to empty), engine started running rough. Code read P0302, misfire cyl. 2. Since it had 113K miles, I figured its time to change the plugs. Did that, and then got 4 codes. 0300 (random misfire), 0302 (cyl 2), 0304(cyl 4), 0171(running lean, bank 1). Then I changed all the boots and springs, and checked that plugs were all secure. Same thing. Changed PCV valve, air filter, fuel filter, and put Lucas fuel injector treatment in tank. Got rid of 0171, but misfire codes still there. Running rough, loss of high end power. Is this the injectors or coils?

Most likely the coils. Easiest way to check is swap them with another cylinder, start it, pull the plug wire connecter and if it doesn't change the engine the coil is bad. If it is the injector, then you can check it with an ohm meter. Touch the leads in the injector it should read 11 to 15 ohms. if you need help let me know.

What are the probable causes of recurrent DTC P0302?

Check the compression on the cylinder. Compare it to specs and to the other cylinders. If the compression is too low, it can cause misfiring. Low compression could be due to piston ring wear, cylinder wall wear, or improper valve seating.

Rough idle jetta 2001 1.8t when it's cold codes p0300 and p0302

p 0300 is random misfires and 0302 is no 2 cylinder misfire
most misfires are from dirty injectors rather than plugs
run a quality injector cleaner and see if there is improvement

When i go up a hill or go over 40 the service engine light blinks on and when i let off the gas it shuts off. what could be the problem?

it has what they call a loaded misfire...you need a coil assy for that particular cylinder...have it scanned and it will most shurley have a misfire code..note the cylinder and relace that coil..the code will read as a cylinder number misfire code..for instance P0302 will mean cyl # 2 and so on...a flashing dtc diagnostic trouble code will always indicate a misfire.

ACTION
Diagnose engine for engine misfire concern. If diagnostics determine an engine misfire which is characterized by leakage through exhaust valve(s), only replace the affected cylinder head(s).
SERVICE PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLES WITH RUNS ROUGH/MISFIRE CONDITION:
1. Perform relative compression check on all cylinders. If abnormal, check cylinder leakage and actual compression for "low" cylinders refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00.
2. If leakage/compression check indicates a valve train concern, per valve train diagnostics in WSM, Section 303-00, replace cylinder head and cam assembly, pipe plugs and timing chain tensioner, per procedure outlined in WSM, Section 303-01.
3. If cylinder leakage and compression tests are inconclusive, perform misfire diagnostic, per TSB 05-22-8.

I have a 2003 Santa Fe with 3.5 6cyl engine that is ideling rought & lots of missing off a stop. had codes PO001,03,05. Had wires & plugs replaced 2 weeks ago & still running rough. Now...

Do you mean P0301, P0302, etc? Misfire codes? You have 6 plugs, 3 coil packs, and 3 wires. cyl 2,4,6 are the ones in front, with the coil packs. It's possible they're bad.

Engine Performance problem 1997 Chevy S-10 4

According to my book, the first code is the brake control rough road sensor, and P0302 is a cyllinder #2 misfire. Check the gap on your plug, and make sure the plug wire is on all the way. Give the boot an extra good push. Backfiring or misfiring under load is always caused by poor ignition. You may also have a faulty plug or wire.
