Try adjusting the switch on the column. They have slots in them where the bolts go in so you can adjust them by sliding it up or down the column. Pull on the switch where the rod goes in and see if you get anything. Let me know what happens.

SOURCE: I REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN

If you do not have a pass key any more, then you will need to dissable the antitheft (pass key module) in order for the engine to turn over. From what I gather you have replaced the column with an older version, which will not allow any comm. with the module. The pass key module enables the starter circuit. See diagram.

SOURCE: replacing ignition switch in 2001 chevy silverado

Not the igniton switch, its the ingition cylinder and or the housing. The switch is not part of what you are really turning. It's connected to it via gears. The common problem is the key gets worn out and the tumblers wear also. Eventualy they do not line up right and will not make the "bar" drop in the cylinder to allow it to turn from the off positon. If you have the title in your name and the key has never been rekeyed or the code has been changed you can go down to a dealership with all of the info for the truck and they can cut you a key from the vin number. You can try that first before you put a cylinder and housing in it.

Only thing it could have been in the first place is the wire from the switch to the starter is disconnected from the starter. Even a new switch won't fix that. Just get under the car and plug the wire back onto the spade connector.

I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado. Occasionally when I turn the key to start it nothing happens. I have power, all lights come on. There are no noises or anything. If I use the remote starter, it works.

sounds like the ignition control switch has gone bad. all light will come one but if you turn to start and nothing happen but works with remote starter then the first thing to get checked is the ignition control switch.

2006 Ford taurus won't start, starter, altlernator, battery replaced, ignition starter switch, neutral safely switch changed, still nothing

I looked at info for your security system, it is starter motor disable. I didn't see 06 ford Taurus in my database, so I looked at 05.
Battery has a full charge and battery connections all good?
We can usually do some tests to see if starter motor will crank the engine, but, if the security is the problem, it still won't start.
You can check for applicable trouble codes? Try a different key?

When I turn the key nothing happens. I changed the starter, changed the relay, the engine was just overhauled, it has 180,000 miles. I noticed that it needs a new oil pan, could this have anything to do...

Oil pan shouldn't have anything to do with starting, but...if it's out, or low on oil is a different issue.
I have run into a shorted tarter that caused failure to an ignition switch, and a park/neutral switch, and both of these need to operate to get voltage to the starter when you turn the key.

check the linkage rod between the ignition key switch and the electrical ignition switch itself for movement when you turn the key from off to start. if it doesn't move then you probably have a broken ratchet gear or rack gear in the steering column at the ignition key switch. if it does move that you probably have a bad electrical ignition switch.

I have a 1997 Grand Am 2.4 SE that won't start

Check battery full charge, battery terminals are clean, cables aren't cracked, broken or corroded and alternator first.

Which your having replaced your starter with new already. If you're still getting nothing it sounds like a bad ignition switch.

They wear normally and need to be replaced. But as a helpful hint don't place excess keys or weighty trinkets on your ignition keys.

They wear on the seating of the key in the ignition and often promote failure in the ignition from bearing the dangling weight.
