I have a 1996 Crown Vic Police Interceptor. I have a strong oder of gasoline in the car and no visible gas leaks. The smell is when parked or driving and it seems to be strongest when gauge reads between 3/4 full to 1/4 full.I have replaced the tank due to a leak and thought it would solve oder problem but the oder is still persistant inside car. I know of another car same model and year that has same problem.

Thats not it. There is only one mod in the trunk, It is a firer extinguisher mount and it is off to the side. This must have been a high ranking officers car. There are no holes in deck lid and no side arm wear on drivers seat. There are holes in light assemblies for wig wags. Thanks for the help, let me know if you think of anything else.

Check fuel pump hanger assembly seal
Check filler neck seal
Check spring-lock couplings on hanger assembly for leaks
Check fuel filter area for leaks
Check fuel tank breather

I had a gas smell once that was strong inside the car, I did not spot any leaks then I traced the fuel line along the frame until it was out of sight where it went above the frame right behind the RF tire,
So I pulled the plastic inner fender off and found the fuel line coming out over the frame and swinging over to the engine compartment. And There was a pin hole in the line in this section and was spraying on the plastic inner fender.

A leak here where its below the cabin air intake area would certainly bring gas fumes inside the car

Those police interceptors had a history of smelling like gas. Most commonly the problem was caused by the improper mounting of police equipment in the trunks. These holes were on the top side of the tanks. Is it possible that you new tank was installed and has been punctured by the same mounting hardware of the old tank. The symptoms would be exactly what you have described, the fuller the tank the stronger the oder, and generally do not see a leak because the hole is located on the top of the tank and is small enuff just let the oder out.

I got a 2000 crown vic. police interceptor an it came with no alternator, got new one and it came with 3 wires and my wiring in the car has 2 wires, whats with the 3'd wire.

They had a couple different alternators for that car, basically the same alternator but different regulators, might be where your trouble lies

Im towing my crown vic 3000 miles do i need to remove the drive shaft

Definitely have to remove the driveshaft on a rwd crown vic, or you have to leave the engine running and the car in neutral to keep the transmission lubricated

I have a 1996 crown vic with a police interceptor engine. It has began to miss really bad, it has 155,000 miles. Do you think it could be the plugs and plug wires? It has gotten progressively worse over a...

If the miss is worse when the engine load is high, I.E.- acceleration or in overdrive then it is very likely that you have hit the nail on the head with plugs and wires. They are very common for failure on the vehicle you have. Do NOT skimp, use good wires and the specific motorcraft spark plugs. (I am not usually a fan of pushing Manufacturer parts, but in this case.......) Also be on the lookout for vacuum leaks, another common issue on the car. Contamination breaks down the rubber and the elbows and hoses collapse, split, and leak.
Have fun. The plugs and wires will help you to learn patience.

2000 crown vic police interceptor bypass a/c clutch pulley

you can get a A/C Delete kit for a Ford 4.6 liter. the 4.6 v-8 accessory drive system is all the same. You may also be able to run a line of string around the pullys, take it to your local auto parts store and they can match it up. I recomend the kit,

Gas odor when at stops sign or parking in garage

I recently had the same problem. It turned out that the fuel regulator on the engine at the left side just above the intake manifold had an intermitent leak. The gas leaking was not always visible so I had the regulator changed and that solved the problem.
