Sounds like the oil seal on the main driveshaft in the transmission is leaking. It's not a big job but it does need the transmission removed to do it.

Testimonial: "sounds like what i thought it was, thanks for the backup "

How do u top gearbox oil up on a automatic clio 51 reg

For vehicles without ATF filler tubes and dip sticks accessible in the engine bay, the ATF needs to be pumped in from the side of the transmission and from under the car. There is a specific filling procedure that must be followed. If your particular model has no Auto transmission fluid filler tube with dip stick in the engine bay this is what must be done. If unsure on your particular model then check your owners manual or contact the dealer service people.

If your model has no engine bay ATF filler tube I suggest you get the dealer to do it for you or a transmission business that knows these transmissions and will not overfill it. The vehicle needs to be up on a lift and perfectly level in cases when fluid is required to be pumped into the Auto Transmission from under the vehicle.

These transmissions are sealed units and if fluid needs to be added then you will have a significant leak that needs to be attended to. Running the transmission with low fluid which requires adding to will result in expensive damage to the the unit. If you have a model with no engine bay transmission filler tube and dip stick to check the auto fluid level you will have no idea how much fluid is being lost if you have a leak.

Oil going out from level gearbox

what gear box.
5speed manual "GL4 gear lube 4, can stink bad"
or autotmatic. (ATF pink fluid, and smells sweet)

what engine, some engines, leak oil and goes to the bell housing
then down hill (gravity and wind) to the exh. pipes.
what engine, the 2.7L V6? or G16 or J20? what?
and on calif cars they have calif exhuast, and fits up different,..
so no country stated, or if in calif. (exhaust questions....)

if the gear box leaks, (any)
we first check to see if its overfilled (Jiphphyboobs/syndrome)
if M/t the side plug inspection port, and transfer case.
if A/T box. (automatic) we read the operators guide, not guessing how and read that on a hot running engine we check ATF levels.
if overfilled the ATF foams and will leak and cause bearing failure.
air bubbles do not work right as lubrication... ever.
filled to hot mark on dip stick
unless the stick is missing, as is true on newer cars.

if trans leaks, say where it leaks.
top , bottom
front or rear.??

pretend we are blind. and win.

Plymouth voyager is leaking pink fluid what could it be

Hi Barajas, The pink fluid may well be automatic transmission fluid. (ATF) The fluid in question is used in the automatic gearbox and the power steering unit. Different fluids come in different colors in different countries, but ATF is usually red or pink. Check the fluid levels in the gearbox and the power steering unit and I believe you'll find one of them is lower than its meant to be. Regards John

Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) checking:
1. Requirements for check:
1.1. Vehicle standing on level surface.
1.2. Transmission must not be in fail-safe mode.
1.3. Shift lever in "P" position, parking brake applied.
1.4. Engine idling.
1.5. Air Conditioner and heater OFF.
1.6. ATF temperature must not exceed 104 Fahrenheit degree (40 Celsius degree) at start of test.
1.7. Automatic gearbox oil capacity: 2,5 liter. Only ATF with VW designation may be used. Do not use any lubricant additives.
1.8. Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF - part number: VW G 052 990 A2
1.9. An ATF level check when transmission oil temperature is too low results in overfilling, when too high results in underfilling.
2. CAUTION: Too much or too little ATF will affect the operation of the transmission. The ATF level must be checked at regular intervals.

Wondering how to check fluid levals in transmission? i have what appears to be gear oil leaking from gearbox connected to half shaft on right side.

How to check & change oil in automatic transmission

At the bottom of the automatic gearbox (tiptronic) you will find 2 threaded plugs on below surface. First (in front of the car) is for emptying, and second is for filling up. Tightening torque is 24 Nm.

tdisline_121.jpg

Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) checking:
1. Requirements for check:
1.1. Vehicle standing on level surface.
1.2. Transmission must not be in fail-safe mode.
1.3. Shift lever in "P" position, parking brake applied.
1.4. Engine idling.
1.5. Air Conditioner and heater OFF.
1.6. ATF temperature must not exceed 104 Fahrenheit degree (40 Celsius degree) at start of test.
1.7. Only ATF with designation ESSO LT 71 141 may be used. Do not use any lubricant additives.
1.8. Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF - part number: G 052 162 A2 (1 liter wrapping)
1.9. An ATF level check when transmission oil temperature is too low results in overfilling, when too high results in underfilling.
2. CAUTION: Too much or too little ATF will affect the operation of the transmission. The ATF level must be checked at regular intervals.
3. The oil level is correct if a slight amount of oil runs out when ATF temperature is between 86 Fahrenheit degree (30 Celsius degree) and 113 F deg (45 C deg) (caused by increase of oil level when heated). For warmer climates, 122 F deg (50 C deg).
4. Hang filled ATF reservoir VAG 1924 as high as possible.
5. Shift lever in "P" position, engine running at idle.
6. Place oil drip pan under transmission oil pan.
7. Remove ATF filler plug (at the bottom of the automatic gearbox you will find 2 threaded plugs on below surface. First (in front of the car) is for emptying, and second is for filling up.
8. With ATF temperature between 86 Fahrenheit degree (30 Celsius degree) and 113 F deg (45 C deg), for warmer climates, 122 F deg (50 C deg), a slight amount of oil will flow from filler hole when ATF level is correct.
9. If necessary drain or top off ATF to attain correct oil level. Top ATF with filler hook from VAG 1924 ATF reservoir. Insert VAG 1924 (tool) ATF reservoir filler hook into filler hole and top off until a slight amount of oil flows from filler hole.
NOTE: Fit filler hook into one of the oil deflector cap slots placed on the filler opening.
CAUTION: Do not press filler hook upward or oil deflector cap can be pushed off.
10. Reinstall ATF filler plug. Tightening torque is 24 Nm.

2004 BMW ci with 58K miles Car leaks reddish fluid after driving and emits odor similar to smell of popcorn. Temp guage always in middle, no idiot lights showing. Master Cylinder-no visible leaks Brake...

oh dear, this is going to be very bad new for you, take it from me the ATM fluid is leaking out of your gearbox, it could be a rear gearbox oil seal, it could be the front gear box oil seal leaking, even the oil cooler or pipes leaking but it is leaking some were, and if its got to be took out to put in a new seal your going to need to sell a kidney or some outher part of you to pay for it, if you can put up with the leak just keep filling up your ATF fluid dont let the gearbox run dry or its realy going to cost you, as it will seize up on you and burn its self out, thats a new gear box then??? costly very costly! if its only a little bit of oil leaking give the motor a good wash down with a power hose under it and fill the atf up go for a drive say 10 miles then look under it, look for fresh oil (ie:red oil) around the gearbox at both ends of it, if you see any that is proof its leaking bad!!! park it over a sheet of paper over night will show how much it leaks too, i would put up with it as long as pos bet if its due for an MOT give it a realy good power wash down first to get rid of any oil, a little leak will still pass, a big un, wont! any oil seal can just fail on you like this one has but they fail much faster if they get over heated due to lack of oil in them
sorry for the bad news, think of selling the kids to pay for a new gearbox,, now there's an idear?
