My airbag light blinks when the car is running. I know on some newer cars a blinking light stands for something else, so anyone got an idea as to why the airbag light would blink on a 1996 Nissan Sentra?

It is blinking out a code to you, count the first blinks then a pause and more blinks, it makes a 2 digit number like 32 which is common. In most cases the problem is the contact between the steering wheel and the steering column is defective. Do not attempt any repairs without disarming the system first or serious injury or death can result from an an unexpected airbag deployment.
{: ) If the airbag light goes off after that 7 blinks (some are 6 or 8), that will be normal. The airbag module will blink the airbag warning light on the cluster while performing self-test during initial start-ups. After the self-test and the airbag module did not detect any fault within the airbag system, it will turn the warning light off. If the airbag warning light continuously blink or stayed lit after the expected elapse time, then there is really a concern and you need to double check the airbag system with a scan tool.
TAKE VECHICLE TO DEALERSHIP YOU HAVE A AIRBAG FAULT.MOST TIME AIRBAG LIGHT FLASHES AIRBAGS NOT WORKING.DONT TRY HOME FIX AIRBAGS COULD DEPLOY ON YOU CAUSING BODILY INJURY.
One of your sensors are not working properly. It is still safe to drive. Have you bumped into something lately or had to jack the brakes? I know it's annoying but it will not go off on you.
Your airbag light blinking is telling you that something is wrong within the airbag system. The blinking is giving a code, it will blink x amount of times, then pause and again blink x amount of times. Example it blinks 3 times, then a pause, and then blinks 2 times, means the code is 32.
After you get the code you can find out what the problem is, and what exactly needs to be repaired. If you're not experienced with airbag systems, it is best to have it serviced by a professional.
I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.
it is flashing a code at u, this indicates the coiled rotating contact under the steering wheel has an open circuit in the airbag connection to the steering column, this contact is called the airbag clock-spring rotating contact, the steering wheel must be removed to replace it, CAUTION: The Airbag must be dis-armed before you remove it from the steering wheel, if it goes off u can be seriously injured.
Furthermore, would you really wan't to take the risk and get into a serious accident and your airbags don't deploy and find out the hard way why the light was blinking? I mean sure it could just be a bad bulb connection, but that really isn't something to tinker with.
We bought the car about 4 mounth ago and as far as i know it has not been in an accident.
And yes the horn does work. I unhooked the battery cables to reset the code and now it started flashing the code 3 blinks and then 2 blinks code32. any idea what this code is for and how to fix this. THANKS
