Crank pulley seems to wobble and is eating the outside edge of my belts. wondering if this could be due to warpage or something of that nature. i just did the water pump and we rotated the crank by hand to make sure nothing touched as far as the timing. could this have caused the wobble in the pulley. the car has 142,000 miles so i guess it is possible it could just be time to replace. thanks in advance, mike p.s. water pump install went smooth no problems as far as that goes, timing is correct

I would check that the "crank pulley" is properly seated. Remove it and put it back on to be absolutely sure. If it worked before it should work now if there was no physical damage to the parts involved. When off - put it on a flat surface and see if it is in fact warped.

Unless something has bent this should not be an issue. The only other time I have run into something like this is when the tension is not correct on the belt. If that doesn't have the spring loaded tension pulley you will find an adjustment on the alternator bracket. If it does have a spring loaded system then you need to replace that spring in the tension arm.

Yes you are correct the pulley is bad. More that likley the tensioner pulley id the issue. I reccomend changing all of the pullies. You should have a belt diagram under hoon on top of fan shroud. If not try owners manual. Google has some helpful sights also. Last resort you could go to your local parts store sometimes they can get a diagram from there sytem.

One or more of your pulleys may be damaged or misaligned. Remove the belt and inspect the pulleys for cracks and/or sharp edges. You can use a stiff straight edge to check alignment. Also check that there is no play or wobble in any of the pulleys and that your belt gemstones is not worn or broken.

Well if you did not have this problem before replacing your power stering pump, then your power stering pulley is not press all the way in, this is a very common failure from the person replacing the pulley, seen this many many times, and like you sad your belt pays the price, your pulley has to be flush with the p/s shaft period, no recess, remember the bolt, washer, nut, that come with the pump? you still may get them in place to press that pulley(replace washer for a thicker or double up so doesnot bent)
Good luck

Check all of the accessories that run off the belt. some may have loose or bent pulleys or the acessory itself may have come loose. Be careful to route the belt exactly as shown too. Tighten up or replace your wobbly pulleys.

Humming noise and wobbling pulley 1995 Corolla

Maybe, you would have to remove the belts and then take a look at all the pulleys, it could be a pulley or a bad waterpump, or even something in the timing belt, like a timing belt pulley or tensioner pulley or waterpump, the best way to find out is to remove all the belts and then start the motor and listen for the noise, if the noise is still there with the belts removed then its something in the timing belt, but is the noise goes away then its something with the belts a pulley or a alternator, you would have to inspect all pulley and the acc, hope this helps,

Do 4runners crank pulleys go bad

Yes, in most cases you can. The crankshaft pulley is bolted to the front of the crank shaft by either 1 large bolt and thick washer, or by 4 small bolts around the edge of inside of the pulley, depending on model.

Remove all belts that are driven by the crankshaft pully and then grasp the pully to see if it is loose in some way.

To remove the large bolt(if that's what you have), will require the use of a strap wrench which can be gotten for the free loan-A-tool from Autozone.

Only if the end of the crankshaft was damaged in some way would you have to replace the crankshaft.

If you would like to contact me again about this or other problems, feel free to do so.
