The 'check engine' or 'service engine soon' light comes on when the computer detects a problem with one of the emission control systems. The problem may be minor, but could also cause bigger problems down the road. Usually part stores can tell you what the check engine light means for free.

Hi. My Jag head lights have started this blinking thing. As I am driving they will blink for no apparent reason. There doesn't appear to be anything going on otherwise. Any ideas where to start?

I had an S-Type too, I found this blinking when battery charge was low. So my opinion is something wrong with charging, you have to check battery contacts, measure battery voltage and check alternator. A possible case, contact problem at ECU. THe ECU under the house of pollen filter at engine end. You need some car mechanic ambition to remove the house of pollen filter and to clean ECU connectors with contact cleaner spray.
Of course this is just my experience, no guarantee, this works at you.

What are common reasons for the check engine light commming on, on a 2002 2.5 x-type sport

there could be many things causing your check engine light to come on . you would
need the fault code stored in the computer before anyone could tell
you anything about why the light is on. however if it runs and
drives normally its probably not to serious, stop by your local repair shop or buy a code reader and see what the codes are..

Yellow engine light went on. What does this mean?

Hi there,

The yellow/orange Engine Check Light is an indicator that your vehicle's computer has detected an abnormality within the engine's electronics or emission system.

Sometimes it can be a one-off abnormality, which eventually rectifies itself within 40 drive cycles.

However, if the Engine light remains lit, then this is an indication of something more concerning (but not necessarily serious).

If it does remain lit when driving, then you should have your local Jaguar service agent scan the computer for "trouble codes", which will quickly identify the component and/or location of the problem.

Hope this helps...

Hi im im changing the chains can you tell me the

Special tools are required, you CANNOT do this at home. Take it to a shop that does Jaguar work. If you dont know what you are doing, serious engine damage will result.

Check engine light

there are hundreds of reasons the check engine light comes on, when the light comes on a code or codes are set in the memory of the on board computer, here is what u do, go to any Kragen or Autozone parts store and then ask for a trouble code test, it is a free service. the radio can be the door switch, the car has a feature called delayed exit.

My jaguar s type has a new message- failsafe engine mode. when it was amber the car was ok but now that its red i have to limp home. how serious is this please. benn quoted a LOT of money at a jaguar main...

Sorry late reply - just seen this problem. The amber warning is basically saying a problem developing. The red and limp home action is showing more serious developement - But not always very bad news. Had car with same symptoms and it was a faulty sensor on engine, and another similar case was throtle position sensor. Get the car to a garage that can read the faults - so you know what the problem is that has been registered in the memory.
Hope this helps

Failsafe engine mode

The failsafe mode can appear following numerous faults being detected - some faults can be momentary and register but not cause a problem. These are normally reset by just turning ignition off/on. get the fault code memory read at a garage and this may give you a clue as to a possible problem developing. Failsafe mode will give you reduced engine performance but will allow you to drive for normally some distance. If a serious problem developes your car message centre will tell you to shut off the engine or it will shut it down.
good luck.
