Tranmission stuck I have a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan that I had from new, now it has 70K miles. Yesterday while driving the gear stuck in 2nd I think and will not shift and the Check Engine Light came on. I put it in reverse and back in forward but it still stuck in 2nd gear. I drove home about 25 miles in 2nd gear. Today I started the Van and the problem cannot be reproduced, it gone, the transmissions is running like new. Any one know what may be the issue.

I have heard of this many times what happens is what the compuiter for the tranny louses it mem then the tranny does not know when to shift . the way to reset it is take off the pos. cable for 2 min and then hook it back up then it should shift . if not then a tranny shop will have to reset it with a diagnostic equipment it is 45 dollars for this charge. It is the modern car of to day i do not like it either .

It seems your gear box is having some problem ...........when you were trying to change the gear forward ,reverse the gear rod might be having some problem to move especially the ball placed in the rod .........the next when you have started van the ball might be moving freely thats the reason you feel like new...........but it is better to check your gear box because it may cause you in trouble while you are going for long journey

When your check engine light comes on it usually refers to the exhaust system, oxygen or many other sensors that can effect engine use.
