I have replaced my wiper motor on my 2003 montana van for the second time. Both times they only lasted for a few uses. It seemed like the wiper motor didn't operate properly on HI. LO and HI moved at similar speeds. The mechanism moves freely by hand. I don't want to burn out another wiper motor if there's another problem.

Check your alternator. Perhaps it is sending out spikes that are frying your electronics.

HI.....
On your PONTIAC MONTANA,
You don;t have to WORRY about the timing belt.
Because your have use a TIMING CHAIN.
And is suposed to be good for the life of the engine.
But you can replace, if you Know that is bad, making grinning noise,.
But DON'T for maintenance.
Is very small. that mean Hard to come damaged.

I hope this information work for you. and resolve your question.

Thank you for use fixya.

SOURCE: Timing off on Pontiac Montana wipers

On top of the window motor there is a timing cam -- there is a little tab on the bottom that is most likely broken or bent. You need to replace the cam.

SOURCE: windshield wiper not moving.motor works.

open the hood and at the base of the wiper arm is a little balck cap, remove this cap and under it is a nut. this nut holds the wiper arm tight onto a spline. check to see if the nut has backed off or needs to be tightened. if not remove the nut and take off the wipers, the black cowel (at the bottom of the windshield) is held on with three plugs.(one in the middle and one on each end.) and one large plug below the passanger wiper blade. the wiper assembly and motor is under this cowel.
hope this helps

2004 Pontiac Montana. The wipers start but then stop after moving just a little and then go back down. They do not come up all the way.

Hello Sebpgood.

O yes, the notorious GM van wiper problem.
The clutch mechanism on the wiper motors are difficult to say the least.
The spline on the shaft from the wiper motor may have slipped putting the wiper motor to wiper transmission out of synchronization.
These are tricky to get back in time.
Also there is a tab on the crank arm designed to catch the clutch that wears and/or bends down and will not allow proper operation.
Most of the time I replace the crank arm assembly as they are prone to wear.
Check all the parts on the wiper transmission for siezed pivots and bent arms.
I hope this helps you towards a repair.
Thank you for using FixYa.

The wipers on my 2003 Honda Odyssey are not working. If I turn them on, then they won't turn off till I shut off the engine. They only go one speed, even if I use the intermittent mode.

Hmm i would first take a trip to the junk yard and replace the switch. Just in case you don't know they suppose to last few seconds before stop. Inspect the wiring, replace wiper motor if switch won't work.

You may just have to have the system recharged with coolant. When was the last time it was checked?

Replaceing alternator on 2000 pontiac montana

I can help with this problem, I just today had to remove my alternator on our 2003 Montana van. Here is how it is done, first disconnect the wiper motor wires and assembly then the two wiper rods (flat) needs to be loosened and disconnected, next comes the pipe cross member that when removed will also remove the complete wiper assembly. The bad thing is, after you do all this and the alternator is not the problem. Which in my case it wasn't. I hope this helps all who are having this problem.
