So your trunk release button on the dash dpesn't seem to open the trunk. Does your key fob button open the trunk? yes....then could be problem with switch but read on. no......are your power door locks not working as well. not working.....check fuse, on 2001 Focus the fuse is a 20amp number 63 on the back of the fuse panel under the dash. Pop cover off and undue the rwo screws. hold plastic retainers and pull off the fuse panel from metal frame. pull fuse panel down toand turn over so you can see the fuse.check fuse. blown? yes.......replace fuse with good one. test all door locks open/close then check fuse...if its blown the problem is something to do with the door lock circuits. if the fuse is still ok...try pushing the trunk open button. fuse still ok? then I am a loss toas to whats the problem but if the fiuse blew when trying the trunk button your problem is the trunk latch circuit. Now if the trunk latch button is popping the fuse then disconnect wiring to trunk latch (in trunk) and try the button again. Still blowing the it is the electrical before the trunk latch unit. If it did now blow the problem is something to do with the part of the circuit you disconnected. How to go farther and find the problem exactly is not covered in this answer. You have to take it from here. JAG
i honestly am guessing, can you turn key to the left from vertical or right from vertical,if so one (left or right)is to lock trunk so you can give your keys to valet parkers....
yes there is if you drop down the glove box lid and remove the bolts holding the fuse box. unclip the fues box and pull it down. turn the fuse box around and there is a fuse on the back (i thing its a 15amp)
this is the other fuse for the central locking.
please let me know if this helps
cheers
big mike :)
there is a recall on them i had the same issue it is caused by the wires being crushed when the trunk colses(im an ex ford mechanic, and ex owner of a focus)
possible, check all the fuses, also the wiring going into the rear hatch, ive repaired a couple, the wiring breaks causing the defogger and wiper and release to stop working the wiring runs next to the latch, but start with the fuses first.good luck.
a loose or damaged wire is causing a short circuit!
you ned to get it tested & rectified by a auto electrician ASAP!
as wiring gets very hot & can destroy your vehicle! {catch fire]
Sounds like a short circuit here ? You will need to locate the short circuit . Most probable is the tail lamps and their connections , then number plate lights , then any hinged wiring going from body to a door or trunk (ie No plate illum lights) area . Sometimes the dash dimmer can be a problem . Good luck
