You need to clean your battery cables.
Try vinegar and sandpaper to get a better contact.
Most jeeps need about 500 amps to start, a dirty cable will lower the amperage the cable can carry

I took a 3 hour drive to see some friends and stay a couple nights. well we went to eat and when i got back to the car it didnt try and start or anything. It also has a problem with not wanting turn over.

If you can hear it trying to turn over but sounds weak, then a clicking noise and dimming of lights - your battery is low on power. Have someone jump it. you can run your car without a full battery, It will charge after you run it. if your battery is fully bad then you will just have to jump it to turn it on, after turning it off. You can also pour tap water into the cells of the batt as a last resort.

If you hear nothing at all when you try to turn it on it, could be your starter. make sure when you turn your key to "on" position you hear one click from your starter. If not its goin bad. if you can see your starter under the hood or under the car (looks like heavy electric motor), try hitting it with a hammer when you try and start it. sometimes that gets it going.

If you have more then one key, try using another key, sometimes the immobilizer in your car "forgets" a keys code.

If it is turning over but not running, it might be a weak fuel pump. Everytime you turn your key to the on position, your fuel pump primes the fuel lines. but if its weak it takes a while to fire up. try turning the key (engine off) from off to on (not start) in 3 sec intervals a few times. that will prime your car more before it starts.

Also some sensor are required to work to run the car. If they are messed up or dirty the car won't start. Mainly the Mass Air Flow sensor near the air filter box or crank senor on the block. If these sensors are whats wrong, you have to tow it or keep trying to turn it on later in the day. electronics sometimes work better or worse depending on the air temp and humidity.
If you have a check engine light on, get a obd2 code reader. it will tell you exactly whats wrong. You can barrow them at advanced auto parts stores sometimes. Or buy one for 20 bucks.

hopes this helps!

When I turn the ignition, the dashboard lights up but the car will not start (the motor does not sound to be turning over)

hi, if when you turn the key nothing happens or you just hear a faint clicking sound then this indicates that the starter motor needs replacing.

If you open the bonnet and get someone to turn the key to start the car you might hear a clicking sound coming from the starter motor if you hear this then this indicates the starter motor needs replacing, if on the other hand you hear nothing at all then you need to check all the wires going to the starter.
Also check the earth wires coming from the battery check they are all connected where they earth out on the body of the car and where it connects to the engine.

You could also try giving the starter motor a few hard hits with a hammer this usually gets it working for a few times.
Also if you car is manual gear box then put it in say 2nd gear then get someone to push the car slightly so that you are turning the engine that way then try starting using the key this also sometimes get the starter working be be warned this isnt permanent fix so get the starter changed sooner rather than later ok

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Takes multiple times to start

I think you have a faling fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator allowing fuel pressure to bleed down when the engine is off.
Try this test - When you start the car for the first time of the day, turn the key to "ON", wait a few seconds, turn the key off. Wait about 15 seconds, turn the key to "ON" again, wait a few seconds. Then wait one final time for 1 seconds and try starting the car. If it starts right away, that means fule pressure is bleeding of due to a bad check vavle int he fuel pump, a bad fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator.

The reason for the procedure is because when you turn the key to "ON", the fuel pump runs for 2 seconds and then shuts off if the engine is not running. The 15 seconds wait is for the power and fuel pump relay to cycle off before it will run the pump again.

Let us know how the test comes out. The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and hums when it is running.
