We have dumped over $5000 into mine in the past 1.5 yrs and the "service engine soon" light has never gone off for more than 3 days. fuel gauge reads either full or empty w/no rhyme or reason. this causes the "low fuel" light to randomly come on. i hear strange noises that SOUND like some sort of brake issue, but 2 mechanics have checked them and said they were fine. this causes the "awd disable" and "anti-lock" lights to randomly come on. one day i was driving down the road and glanced at the dash to be mesmerized by what looked like disco lights because the dash was flashing: *SECURITY * *LOW FUEL* *AWD DISABLE* *SECURITY*
My entire family has been driving GM vehicles exclusively (mostly Buicks and Chevys) for over 60yrs. I was raised by war veterans and union members and I believe very strongly in buying American. I am a union member myself, and am disgusted daily by all the foreign cars on the roads. But I am so disturbed by the number of problems I've had with this ONE vehicle in less than 2 years (and the fact that so many of us have had so many problems that remain to be solved or even acknowledged), I am seriously considering never buying GM again. I will have to swallow my gm pride and buy a jeep or a dodge and pray that they haven't ALL failed us.

1993 chrysler new yorker. Fuel gage doesn't register. Low fuel light stays on even when tank is full.

More than likely the sending unit is not communicating with the fuel gauge so even when the tank is full the unit doesn't register it.There could be a short or a loose connection from the sending unit to the guage

Warning light for low fuel stays on

The sensor is part of the fuel pump module inside the gas tank.
The signal is sent to the body computer, so it could be a faulty module or a problem with the body computer.
The circuit would need to be checked with a meter.

I have a Hyundai Elantra 2001. The low fuel light came on and won't go off even though the car if full of gas.

If gauge still shows empty and light is on then inside tank there is a arm thats prob just stuck remove lower rear seat and will see entry to tank gauge has about 3 to 4 screws open and check if arm is down or floating .

The gas gauge reads empty and gas light is on even when gas tank is full

this problem is caused by a defective gas tank sending unit for the gage and the low fuel light, replace the sending unit.

The low fuel light stays on even when tank is

Hi: Your Fuel Level Sending Unit That Is Located in Your Fuel Tank Is Probally Bad. BUT before you go to taking the Sending Unit out Of your Tank Check to see if ALL Connections To And From Tank to Gauge are Conected Good. Also You could have a Fuse that Goes to the Sending Unit,in Your Fuse Block.Check And See if You Have A Fuse Labeled Fuel Sending Unit or Fuel Sensor. If you end up Replacing The Fuel Tank Sending Unit Run Your Gas Tank Down To Almost Out Of Gas Before You Start to Remove The Metal Straps Holding Your Tank Up. Cause The Sending Unit Is on Top of Your Tank ,And Your Fuel Pump Is In The Gas Tank As Well. Hope This Has Helped You Please Send Me a Vote on How my Solutions Have Helped You And Also You Can Send Me A Testamony Thank You From the WYOCWBOY

I can not find any wiring diagram that shows the correct fuel module connector (7 pin). Gage stays pegged beyond full, and fuel low light will not illuminate, even when usable fuel in tank is exhausted....

sounds to me that the gas tank is not grounded or 12v was supplied to sender unit wire and damaged fuel gauge

run a ground wire from battery neg (black) post to clean metal on tank

1989 Saab 900 low level fuel light

You don;t say whether the fuel gauge is reading accurately, or whether it's always on empty. If the gauge is always showing empty, it's most likely a problem with the sending unit in the fuel tank. Check the resistance across the two terminals of the sending unit.

On a C900, the fuel sender level unit is separate from the fuel pump and located on the right side top of the tank, accessible by removing the trunk floor lift up panel (the pump is located on the left side top of the tank.
Possible problems are: electrical line off or broken, float not working (it's fairly delicate); or gauge not working.

Test the resistance of the sending unit with the lines disconnected, the resistance should be 2.6 to 3.8 ohms full tank, 63.3 to 67.5 ohms empty tank; and test for voltage across the top of the sender unit, if no voltage, that's likely the problem!

If the gauge is otherwise reading accurately (showing 'full' for a full tank, etc) then the problem is likely a gauge malfunction and can be simply replaced.

Good luck!
