The check engine light doesn't have to come on with a bad crank sensor ,your vehicle has two , one for lower rpm an one for higher speeds . A&B
The two crankshaft sensors are located on the front bank (BANK 2) of the engine block between cylinders 4 and 6. Crankshaft position A sensor is located in the upper crankcase and crankshaft position B sensor is located in the lower crankcase. Both sensors extend into the crankcase and are sealed to the engine block with O-rings. The crankshaft position sensors are not adjustable.

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage. The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side to near the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.
SOURCE: how to replace front swaybar
If the rubber is not worn out deteriorated, the problem if you have rattles over bumps may not be the bushings. It may be the stabilizer links (these links attach to the strut at the top and to the sway bar at the bottom. These links were a very high failure item. Thank you
Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the crankshaft position sensor by pulling the tangs on the side of the connector away from the plug and pulling the plug off the sensor.
Unbolt the sensor's retaining bolt, using the appropriate socket. Remove the sensor and its O-ring from the block.
Clean the mating surface on the block with a rag. Ensure that the new O-ring is on the new sensor. Install the sensor and tighten the retaining bolt firmly. Do not over-tighten the bolt, as you will damage the sensor.
Plug in the wiring harness connector, ensuring that it snaps into place.

If the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) or "Check Engine Light" is on with a DTC (Data Trouble Code) (P0335-P0340) then the crankshaft sensor would most likely be the problem, however if there is no DTC and the "MIL" is not on when the engine is running, then that is usually an indication that the fuel pump or the ignition module is faulty. If the engine stalls and there is still good fuel pressure in the fuel rail then the ignition module is most likely faulty. If the engine stalls and there is low or no fuel pressure in the fuel rail then the fuel pump is most likely faulty.
