Upon reaching a speed of 25 mph I hear a humming/growling noise from the drivers side front end of my 1999 Silverado 4 X 4. Noise gets louder with increased speed. Replacement of the front axle hub did not help. Fluid level is OK in front differential.
I'm having the same problem with my 2006 Chevy 2500 duramax...The humming starts at 25mph and then gets less prominent and then at 50mph it gets more prominent and louder, then at 60mph you can hardly hear it.....I did notice a little bit of leakage where the front axel meets the from diff on the drivers side.
Any suggestions?
Have u checked axel itself or the differential sun gears,star gears check for play in the same (less or more) u'll fix this problem for sure checking the same

Well boys, I'd look at the HUBs, I just replaced both of mine at 251,000 and she is as quiet as a kitty, excpet whe I put'er in 4x4 then a little hum...but i followed all instructions.and fluid level is full...so I am checlking what to do next...but she drives up hills like a bandit...

I have the same exact front end growling howling problem with my 1999 Silverado 1500 Z71 with 133,000 miles on the driver side. I bought some bearing/hub sets and was going to put them in thinking the bearing was bad and was going to replace both left and right side. Well, when I had the wheel off, I spun the rotor and hear the growling noise but, not near the bearing hub. I put my ear near the differential and to my disappointment, the sound was coming from where the shaft goes into the case. The differential case is leaking. I checked the passenger side and it makes no noise. I wonder if I can continue to drive it like this and keep oil in it, will it be ok? A simple bearing replacement or total rebuild?

My 99 does the growl thing at 40 to 60 mph. Replaced wheel bearing, did not help. Anybody got any other ideas?
I have the same problem with my 2003 Chevy Blazer 4x4. I have to put it in neutral to change from 4x4 to 4x2 . I have noticed that I am getting a howling type noise when I get around 40-60 km's. I live in Calgary Alberta Canada and my suv seems to be louder when it is warmer?? I am worried about this big time as I just bought this Blazer. If anyone can help me out as well as I am a female and would like to know what I might be facing before I take it to a mechanic!!
I have the exact same problem, I have a 1999 Z71 Silverado. At 40-60 mph there is a humming noise that seems to radiate from the front left wheel. Also, at 40+ if I barely tap on the gas there is a severe grinding noise, almost like some chains being dragged alongside one another. I replaced the wheel hub bearing, it didn't fix it. So I gave in and took it to Chevy who replaced the transfer case housing and all of the bearing inside it as well as the transfer case encoder motor for the hefty price of $1700. To my disappointment, I was about 1/4 mile out of the parking lot and my truck is doing the exact same thing it was before I wasted 1700 bucks. I took it back to them and they said "they don't know what's wrong with it" I should let it get worse so they can diagnose it better.... They overfilled my transfer case btw because it's been spitting out fluid like crazy now. If anyone has any idea how to actually fix this problem please let me know, thanks.
when i go over 30 mph i get a thump thump and it is felt through the pedals and its only on the drivers side . wheel bearings ? or hub It is on a 2006 chev 2500 hd silverado
i wouldnt for long . Does it go away or get louder when locked in 4WD
slow speed has a bumping noise front end
Humming noise back of Jetta and gets louder as speed increases, I take it out of grear or let up on gas petal and still makes humming noise.
