I have a Jeep Wrangler Sahara 1999.It spent most its life in Vermont, now in Georgia. I parked it one day ,when I went to restart it the next morning it didn't start and the odometer read NO BUS. I have replaced PCM, and still nothing . When I used An OBD reader it coded unable to connect. I don't want to drop thousands into this in a shop. Any ideas?
If you fix it by removing the instrument cluster, how difficult is that? Do you have to remove the who dash to get to it? Isn't there an easy fix that you can do up under the dash?If you fix it by removing the instrument cluster, how difficult is that? Do you have to remove the who dash to get to it? While driving my 200 jeep sahara the RPM and MPH would go down to nothing, the check engine light would come on, then "no bus" showed up in the odometer then it would go back to nothing until one day my car just stopped working while driving down the road. After letting my car sit for a couple of hours it started up again drive a while then it did it again. While driving my 200 jeep sahara the RPM and MPH would go down to nothing, the check engine light would come on, then "no bus" showed up in the odometer then it would go back to nothing until one day my car just stopped working while driving down the road. I used to have the NoBUS show up on the odometer also, but always while driving. The immediate fix was a sharp rap on the top of the cluster with my fist. To fix it permanently, I removed the cluster, cleaned the contacts both cluster and harness with spray contact cleaner, then applied some dielectric grease to prevent any further corrosion.

Is it making any sound at all when you turn the key? Does the odometer show numbers? Is there otherwise any evidence othere being power to the Jeep? How corroded are your battery terminals? They may not be getting a good connection to the battery posts.
It depends if your jeep is lifted or stock, and what kind of performance you want. Check www.quadratec.com . They have a great suspension and lift kit advisor that will help. In general, Old Man Emu, Teraflex, Rancho.
more than likely a broken belt in tire but you mite have a bad tie rod or tie rod end, if all that checks out ok than I would start looking at o/d in the trans
my 99 jeep wrangler has the same problem when I had it looked at they told me its a chrysler problem and there is nothing wrong and there is a short under the dash I had them reset the warning light for an emissions test but the light came back on in a few days. It was not worth the expense to try and find the short
There's a defect with them. I have a 1999 and the gauges and dash lights will go off and a "no bus" message will appear where the Odometer displays. If I push on both sides of the Dash they will come back. It seems to be a Ground Problem. I don't know how to fix it yet, however I was told for about $400.00 the Dash can be removed and the problem repaired by the Dealer.
I am having the "no bus" show up on my odometer while driving.
I also noticed that the guages are operable
the no bus is also accompanied by the check engine light and the airbag light.
I tapped on the horn thinking that the airbag is in the stearing wheel and everything went back to normal
This has happened twice in the last two days.
does anyone think that the connectors behind the dash is the same cause??
