I've just replaced the radiator on my 1996 Volvo 850 (non-turbo). Mine is (to the best of my knowlege) 2.4 liter, 20 valve with only transmission cooler lines (the radiator has a mounting ear on each side). I rember when I was removing the old one (upper hose connection was snapped off inside of the hose!), there was a small vacuum pulloff dashpot on the driver's side of the fan shroud with a hose attached to it. This had to be removed (along with unplugging all the modules and connections associated with the shroud) befor I could remove the original raditor. I've got the new radiator replacement finished, but now I cannot find the hose that attaches to the dashpot. Can you pleas tell me where this hose originates so that I can trace it out and attach it (dashpot intermittently is trying to pull vacuum and pulling in unfiltered air)? Thanks; Thomas R. Davis

SOURCE: VOLVO 850 RADIO/CD REPLACEMENT

Yes, its simply to remove the radio wich is there (two clamps, one on each side) retract the connectors.
You might need to buy a compartment to conceal the part of the opening that will be exposed when removing the bigfront-radio.
(Volvo-dealers can help you) And a cableset wich contains the connectors to the Radio-connectors in the 850 and directly to the radio you buy. (Most radio-dealers hava all kinds)

New radio mounts in only e few hours. All included.
Theese Volvos are very well prepeared for this.

SOURCE: 1995 Volvo Station Wagon headrest removal

You have to push in on the back of the seat as in the picture below. It really takes two people, one to push in and one to pull up on the head rest. http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/download/file.php?id=1748&mode=view

1996 volvo 850 turbo smoke coming out exhaust

I assume you mean exessive smoke?
White smoke = watersteam - usually cracked cylinderhead gasket
Replace gasket
Black / dark smoke preferrably visible when accelerator is let up after acceleration = oil - usually enters the cylinders through worn valve seals.
Repclace seals (can be done without lifting cylinder head)

My 1996 Volvo 850 2.4 I5 non-turbo appears to be overheating. I replaced the Thermostat but it still appears to be overheating. How do I troubleshoot to see if it is the radiator or maybe the cooling fans?

first you need to check your cooling fan working you can do so by turning your a/c on if your a/c is working properly/if so turn off a/c and let car sit till overheat and see if fan kicks in.if not possible your fan circuit electrical or sensor related/and also check for air in your system bleed system good check for circulation open radiator cap.
