Display no longer works on Radio/Climate control but both operate

To be honest it would be in your best intrest to take this vehicle to subaru. I feel that the problem you are expierencing is caused by another component draining power to ground. I have seen this problem many times over in todays cars. Even on the american ones example GM's have a poor setup on the blower motor relay which when it drains to ground causes the nav system and even certain gauges to quit working. Just to save your time and money I would take this vehicle to a reputable dealership.

I am a ASE mechanic and have seen this before, and its been mentioned previously. But you need to change out the "faceplate". this is a timely fix and is costly as well. About 600-1200$ depending on labor price and parts. Id leave it to subaru cause the dash is difficult to try and take out and you wouldnt want to cause damage.

Similar situation arises in all cars ,you have a fiber optic light source that is feeding off individual lights ,if you can pull the dash board ,i'll be happy to guide you through the repair.

After reading al the comments i simply think tht it is best to take it to subaru than tryin yourself... this wil be the best solution i guess.. thank you

Displays going out from time to time is an indication of loose connections. this would be because while in travel your car is being wiggled or shaken because of bad road conditions. try to tighten it or pressing its sides.

You open only the radio compartment assembly and checked the connection going to the lcd display maybe there is a loose connection of wiring there..

Are these lights on a dimmer? If so it is possible that the dimmer switch could be dirty or broken which explains why the lights aren't receiving power. Or if these lights are on all the time then it may be a break in a wire or a bad ground if you've check the fuses already. If you open the dash you should wiggle the wires that lead to and away from the lights to find the culprit. Also make sure all the connectors are connected and making contact.

Check out fuses and connections properly if everthing is fine then its a sensor problem so replace the sensors.

With regards to all other experts that posted;

these sensors that are not working now may need replacement. but before you even think of replacement, as other experts said, you must check all possible connections and fuses as this may be the only reason why those sensors are faulty.

Check all the wiring connections and fuses, if possible get the display serviced in local electronic display center it would cost you less............or try to find another after market navigation system and install in your car which cost you less.

If the car is about a month of warranty try to contact the manufacturer but not the dealer and ask for a courtesy repair some times they will be hable to give you a courtesy repair to kees you as a happy customer of volvo, also other sujestion is turn the ignition on and try to see if somethign works if not wigle the switch like to the start position but not all the way to crank and back and forward trying to stay as closes as you can to the ignition on, if nothing of this work just don't be disapoint look for a nearest either mobile auto electrical specialist, or look for an auto electricar repair shop, and ask them for an estimate to have the car diagnose just don't tell them how much the dealer want,
and also one more very important thing pay atention very wheel
if this electrical problem is causing or afecting the emition system in your car then the dealer has to fix it for free even if out of the 36/36 because many people don't know that the goverment require the dealers to warranty the emitission on the car for like 75000 miles or five yrs, look at your owners manual to see if you find that information, how can you know if this electrical problem is afecting the emisions, very easy, just see id the check engine light is on, or have the car take for a smog test
and if it fails that means you have an emision problem

It will be the back lighting of the display and that is just a little ( actually 3) led's. It can be the connection to them or the led's are ( terminal of them) are lose.
There are some car shop who specialize in Subaru and it should definitely not cost 1000.
Mor in the range o 3-400 regarding labor cost but they might give you a break as the parts are almost 0
Dont try this yourself unless you are really into cars because the 2005 is a pain to get the dash out.

Based on your description, it would seem to be an intermittent problem and limited to the display only. Being so therefore would limit the problem to the display. Often, this would indicate a loose connection or possibly corroded terminals. Of course repair/correction would involve dismantling the dash and checking the various connectors with particular attention to those leading to and from the display area. I beg to differ on even checking the fuse(s) as often fuse would be for relatively high current consumers and not for display which would be consuming very low current. in some instances, it could be a low voltage regulator (+5) for the logic/electronic circuitry controlling the display.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Thats ridiculous that they wouldn't at least work with you and take off some labor or something. Sounds like you need new faceplate.
Nothing much I think anyone can do on here especially compared to the dealership. I would complain to subaru directly as if you talk to the company and not the dealership you might have better results. They should not want to lose a customer over a radio display.
