WRONG!!! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE CV AXLE!!!!

Loosen and remove bolts to power steering assembly. Move the assembly (hose stay connected!) away from alternator. Remove the wire harness ro the alternator. Remove the wire cable from the alternator. Loosen the top bolt to the alternator. Remove the adjuster bolt at the bottom of alternator. Remove the top bolt....and wah-la. The alternator comes out with ease.

Loosen the upper bolt from the top and remove. From the bottom remove the adjuster bolt and remove. You'll have to remove the CV axle and remove the alternator from the bottom of the car. Not a very good design as you may already be aware of.

I have 1997 f150 and my alternator went out , I put a new one on and now my gauges are all weird and not working properly what could be the problem?

check the alternator output

either the "new" (more likely rebuilt) alternator is overcharging, (17+ volts) or the diodes are defective and the alternator is putting out AC volts instead of DC volts

Alternator wont stay charged.

Replace the large wire on the back of the alternator, with a new one,it comes off the back to the positive side of the battery, leave the old one on the alternator.
