I have an '05 legacy GT w/manual transmission and the clutch was replaced at 80,000 miles. Now at 98,000 4th gear is "slipping" or grinding after it warms up for 5 min. of driving. My mechanic thinks its the synchros within the transmission. Has anyone had this problem before? Now how much it costs to fix?

First Did you take the emergency barke off? and have you checked the fluid level? even a pint of fluid can damage transmissions. look at fluid is it brown? if it is you need to change the oil and filter in the transmisson. Does it go in reverse?

This isn't the best issue to try to tackle in a driveway or a garage. You're going to have to remove the entire transaxle assembly. This job is one I even take skeptically. Personally, I would refer you to a very well equipped shop, or a transmission specialist.

SOURCE: my car has a constant " marbles in a can sound"

Do you have "rack and pinion" steering? Something loose or broken off in the Steering column, shocks, struts. or velocity boot can cause those types of noises. I recommed "PepBoys" - we've been with them for years and theyve never "steered" us wrong - and when they did make a mistake, they fixed it quickly at no charge and took full responsibility. Refreshing these days ha? :) Good luck, happy driving/]

1994 Ford Probe GT Transmission

OK..............There is no transmission fluid just clutch fluid. Its in a small reservoir on the firewall. I think you have a worn clutch or it needs the lines adjusted. If the clutch doesn't engage until the pedal it almost at the top then you need to adjust it or replace it. The cleaner you put in is irrelevant to your problem. There is gear oil in the transmission though but that's not the problem either. The clutch cable is easy to adjust, just loosen the lock nut and spin the cable adjuster until the pedal feels right. Hope this helps :)

95 legacy awd with a slipping clutch

yes the problem is that the pressure plates is getting weak and doesnt keep enuf pressure on the clutch. ive replaced clutch sets on many diff vehicles and when they act like u decribe its usually the pressure plate. replace entire clutch kit and if u decent mechanically u should be able to do it. in a clutch kit they give u a diagram and directions. keep a very good note on what parts u took off where to ensure u put them back in the right place

'00 Toyota 4Runner manual transmission slipping out of first gear

The problem is most likely internal. Sounds like it could be the synchronizer or maybe the gear itself. Hard to say until you take it apart and look at it. I guess a price range of around $1000-$1500 to rebuild, repair costs depend on what parts needed, cost of parts, labor/time involved.
