1998 Dodge Caravan 3.8L engine. The low oil pressure light comes on. Replaced oil and filter, but light still comes on.

If your oil level is full, light is off and no abnormal engine noises, if should be ok to drive to the shop. If light does come on, stop the engine. I would also have the shop check your oil pressure with a manual gauge, to determine the exact oil pressure reading. This could save you from major engine failure due to low oil pressure. The oil pressure switch is located on the engine block, just above and towards the drivers side of the oil filter. You should take this to a shop and have them check the oil pressure just to be safe.

Remove, check and replace the Oil Pressure Sensor. It should be located adjacent (just left of) the oil filter.

If the engine is not making any knocking type noises, check the oil pressure sending unit. If it is leaking oil then it needs to be replaced along with removing the rubber plug from the connector and cleaning the terminals. If the oil light still comes on then the oil pressure is definately low and could cause engine failure.

Keep checking those Fluids. it sounds a lot like your Oil pump is taking a Slow Death March. At some point you will need to replace it.

My friend that alarm is telling you u have low oil pressure, do you want to destroy the new engine?? Find out if the eng really has low oil pressure, it may just be a defective oil press sending unit causing the alarm, have the press checked with a mechanical guage or just replace the sender and see if that cures the issue, the alarm is part of the Body Control Module and can't be disconnected.
