If your coolants color is pink you must add coolant that is pink. If it is green you must add green. You CANNOT mix green and pink together. You can get 50/50 mix which is half coolant and half water which is ready to use. You can also get coolant that does not have water added to it but you will still need to add water. This is usually better for your buck.

Im trying to replace my coolant and I'm not sure how much to put in. It's the 4.3 L v6 in a 1988 GMC c1500

Don't know the exact amount but around 2-2 and a half gallon. Do this use one gallon straight antifreeze and one gallon water run engine for a few minutes then turn off. Check level and top off radiator. Add appropriate level to side tank

you can buy a kit at Walmart fairly cheap, and do it yourself. it may take 2-3 cans of coolant. make sure you dont buy the kind with the sealer in the coolant. Because if you take it to a shop, they aren't happy about the sealant having to be separated.... most say the you should add the coolant on the low side. To make sure call a local shop and they should tell you. I put mine in on the low side.... Good luck

LOW COOLANT LIGHT

Just had a go-round with same problem in an 87 Cavalier. Had to take off radiator cap, add coolant, squeeze bottom radiator hose. After no more bubbles, add coolant, squeeze top radiator hose. Squeeze bottom again. Add coolant as needed. The air was because it was run low when the radiator cap gasket failed and coolant boiled out. Never got the overheat notice on digital dash or idiot light. Make sure you have a new radiator cap.

I have 2 problems, the low coolant light comes on and the air conditioning blows warm, does it have a leak in air conditioner and where can I add coolant (what kind?); and the security light comes on and...

Low coolant is detected by a sensor inside the plastic resevoir tank. These things lie, so if the resevoir has plenty of coolant, it's probably a dirty or faulty sensor. If you can't see coolant, add it directly to the resevoir. As for the A/C, you can purchase an A/C pressure gauge or complete check and fill kit at a parts store and follow the directions for using it. If the pressure reads low, with the car running and A/C on full blast, add refrigerant until you hear the compressor turn on. Check your gauge again. Once you have it to pressure, you should be good to go. If it never gets there, you have problems. If it gets there and stops working again days later, you have a slow leak.
