1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee / Approx. 133,000 miles - Owned since new and very well kept. Only at idle, engine stops working but would start again after 20 min wait, would work fine for a few days and do it again. Brought to shop, all tests run, computer has no engine problem history. After a couple of weeks of that, the problem became so bad that had to leave it at the shop and leave it there. Took them 1.5 days of idling to finally do it in front of them. Showing both spark and fuel pressure. Changed the computer and the car ran great for one week and did it again while idiling. Changed Computer again and Crank Case Sensor and car ran great for month and a half. Just did it again but this time while on the highway. After a 2+ hour wait, car started again (while taking it off of Flatbed) like nothing happened! What's is going on? Country: United States Make: Jeep Model: Grand Cherokee 4x4 Year: 1999 Engine: 8 clyinder

I would try your pickup coil in your distributor. I would also be checking the o2 sensors. both of these things can cause problems like this and would not set off the check engine light.

Replaced transmission seal then on 2 different occasions going down highway at bout 65 to 70 miles hour transmission kept shifting btween overdrive n drive come to a stop n take off didnt do it again...

Computer controlled transmissions can get confused at times, from my personal experience. If the problem doesn't happen again, I would ignore it. If it happens all the time, it's most likely the transmission computer. Other things could be the shift linkage, engine vacuum leak, speed sensor, etc... Hope this helps.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalls when brakes are applied

My 2000 Grand Cherokee had the same problem, without all the sputtering, it would just die approaching a stop. We could only keep it running by slightly pushing down on the gas petal when coming to a stop. I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor, but that didn't change anything. A new mechanic I found replaced the Idle Air Control Valve, and we've had no problems in a week.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Problem

Idle prolem could be a dirty throttle body or sticky air idle control motor.
If the Jeep is a 6 cly. the adjustment for the belt is the power steering pump.
If the Jeep is an 8 cyl. the tensioner is on the pass. side of car.
