2004 Chevrolet Aveo Logo

2004 Chevy Aveo has clunking noise comming from right rear, have took it to mechanic 3 times, they replaced both rear wheel bearings, last time said they could not find anything wrong in rear but said it needed sway bar links had those replaced. My husband said the right trailing arm bushing seems wore out but can't find anyone who knows anything about this. If this is the problem, Can you buy the bushing by itself or do you have to replace the whole axle? Thanks for any help.

I was told by a paid expert on here, that you could not buy the bushing, that you would have replace the whole axle.

Bushings available on ebay used them on my 2004 aveo and the work

What size are the bushings that I would need for the aveo, how do I know what ones to get?

  • Anonymous Feb 19, 2011

Oops! I think my wife typed in the wrong thing. If you are interested in buying the bushings from me on ebay, please search rear axle bushings aveo. Sorry about that!

I have also been a "paid expert" or mechanic (certified) for over 30 years. I also have a small repair shop at home. One of my customers came to me with an aveo and was informed that he had to replace the axle. I got a price and was shocked at what it would cost him. Then I did some research and discovered that the axle bushings could be replaced, but the manufacturing company did not offer them. That is when I did even more research and discovered these bushings. I replaced them and saved my customer a whole pile of money. He was pleased and that is why I am offering the solution to other people. It is unfortunate that so many people are replacing their axle when they do not have to. The solution is an option for those who are interested in saving some serious cash.

I have a 1997 toyota rav 4 that makes a clunking noise whenever I turn the wheel. What is it?

Hi

Is it a clunk clunk clunk noise? Then you have a CV joint that needs to be replaced. This is called the CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT, and helps you turn the wheel when it is in motion.

It has ball bearings inside and when the housing wears out, they make that clunking noise.

See your mechanic for a change and see if you can replace both wheels at the same time.

Hope that helps.

My back right wheel locked why and what can I do

The exact same thing happened to my 2004 Aveo on the same side. I had it towed to the mechanics and they informed me that GM glues the shoes to the pads and when they seperate they jam up and that locks your wheel. I had to get new brakes on the back so I just did the entire car in case they were all like that. Hope this helps.

Passenger rear wheel locked up, 2004 Chevy Aveo LS, person said parking brake was stuck.. coiuld it have frozen that way?

This also happened to my 2004 Chevy Aveo. The drivers side rear wheel locked up when it first got extremely cold in December 2009. I had to change the rear wheel cylinder because it broke. They also found the rear wheel bearing also had to be changed. GM charges $180 for 1 rear wheel bearing. To make matters worse I had to order the whole backing plate which came with the rear wheel cylinder and a whole bunch of hardware.
If you look in the GM manual it says that you should flush and change your brake fluid every 24 months. My mechanic told me that moisture normal wrecks the brake cylinder. I'm not sure what happened to the wheel bearing but from now on I'll make sure to flush my brake fluid every 24 months.

2004 Aveo sounds like a helicopter!!

I have been tricked by the wheel bearings many times. i had to invest into a chasis listening device so i could be more acurate in my diagnosis for my customers. what i am getting at is you probably had two bad bearings when you replaced the right one that was louder. the axle bearing is the wheel bearing wich now contains the hub too. make sure the axle nut has been torqued to the manufactures recommendations of "THEIR" part. 3 different manufacturers = 3 different torques. believe me i've had my suppliers send out two different make hub/bearings and had two different torque values. i like to use oem parts. Check to see if their is a bulletin or recall for those as they shouldn't have gone bad that soon unless you have a ton of miles on it.
Good Luck..........Scott
