Anti-freeze leak I have a 97 Sebring, everythime I use it or leave in the driveway or any place, the antifreeze start to leak. The surprising thing it I need to put new anti-freeze every week or so.

recently replaced the main timing chain, all new sprockets, new water pump, all new gaskets and after putting everything back together. started it and noticed after a little while that antifreeze was leaking underneath the car, upon further inspection we had anti freeze in the oil. so we took it all back apart and replaced the water pump gasket again and put more RTV all around both sides and put everything back together with all the correct torque specs. we started it again and it seemed to fix the problem until we went and drained the oil, we still had anti freeze in the oil but not as much. what do you think would cause this to happen? we followed every instruction in the Haynes manual and we are still having issues. any help is greatly appreciated.

If it's leaking at the top of the engine down. Look at the top of the engine at the front and you'll see a bleeder valve on top a black housing. These housings like to come apart at the glued seams. If it's leaking at the lower part of the engine towards the front, it could be your water pump leaking. Check your oil and if you see the color of the oil looking like chocolate milk, your water pump needs replaced, the oil will need changing as well. Do a coolant system pressure test and see if your hoses somewhere are leaking. Also check for your surge tank leaking. This is the tank that you put coolant into.

How do i know if freeze plugs blew or not?

If there was no antifreeze , and the water in the block froze and expanded the not only did the freeze plugs blew, but you may have cracked your block. Freeze ports are cast in the engine block when made and the plugs for the holes are usually made of zinc alloy and pressed into the block. When the water does not have the proper mix of antifreeze, it expands and forces out the plugs to prevent block cracking. If it is real cold for extended periods of time it may not be enought room for the water to expand and it cracks the block. water on the ground and sometimes the plug that looks like a over sized bottlecap are evidence. If you attemp to start you car you will permantly damage your engine..

My car leaks antifreeze smokes when u turn it off but doesn't get hot

a simple pressure test will tell you where the leak is coming from. typically a car can nave very low anti-freeze and not over heat, the smoke that you are seeing is most likely anti-freeze that is getting on the engine or exhaust manifold and causing the leaking coolant to smoke ( burnt coolant will have a sweet odor). chances are that you have a loose or bad hose clamp or hose some place. However it is my opinion that you should start with a pressure test and isolate where the leak is coming from.

My car is overheating do i just add engine coolant and would that the job?

most likely and lets hope that's all it is, if your loosing a lot of fluid could be a leak, sometimes doesn't show til fluid warms up and the little leaky hole expands, checking levels wouldn't hurt and if your in nice weather conditions you can get home and around locally on just water but you will want to change it to antifreeze before the first cold snap of winter. Good rule of thumb is just go with straight antifreeze coolant so end of season comes and you don't forget that it's straight water by that time. watter freezes and ice is very unforgiving in tight spaces. good luck

I have antifreeze leaking out of the car and car is running hot cause the anti freeze keeps leaking out where could it be coming from?

If the antifreeze is leaking externally, most likely places are from the radiator or hoses, from the water pump bearing, from engine gasket.

No heat , antifreez leak not visable...

A car this new should have a warranty right? the only other place for anti-freeze to go is through a blown headgasket into your oil. Pull out your oil dipstick and make sure it is not milky in color. If not check behind the engine and see if any coolant lines going into the firewall are leaking. When inside the car do you smell steaming coolant(anti-freeze) or hear gurgling? The temp gauge that stays on is the overheat indicator?

Have a 94 olds 3800v6 seriersII

The oil you find your antifreeze is probably transmission fluid. This is when the trans cooler built into the radiator leaks internally.
