(lurching, surging, gasping, hesitating, shuttering)

At random but frequent times, the car will start hesitating and shuttering while driving. It really seems to do it a lot now while we're driving on the freeway @ 70 + mph. It seems as though it's gasping for the right air/fuel mixture. High altitudes are a problem.....we limped into Mammoth, CA (7,500ft). The intermitent hesitation was frequent and violent at times; cruise control or not.

If we're heading down a hill, it will clunk and lurch forward at random times....especially if the accelerator isn't being depressed. Stop & go traffic is the same, lurching & clunking.

Fuel Issues? Lurching and gasping

the first free thing you have to do is to get a free fault code reading for a parts shop. this will indicate where the problem is.
if there is a problem in the canister system the filling up creates a purge or venting problem which will be in the fault codes.

Windstar 3.0 2000 stalls randomly when starting engine and randomly hesitates and dies when driving. I can drive several miles without symptoms and suddenly it dies or missfires. Any clues?

My first question is - is the check engine light on? If it is you should have trouble codes stored in the computer that would help direct you to what you should test.
If not, it may be tough to figure out until the problem is constant. Most anything electrical can cause the symptom you describe. Heat, moisture, and fatigue can play a role in the problem.

My 1997 Buick LaSabre just dies at random. 5mph or 60mph--no hesitation--just death. Then it wont restart till its ready, if at all.....Sometimes three times in a day...sometimes not for a week. I'm scared...

can't help you but I have a 1993 LeSabre doing the EXACT same thing! I am sacared to drive it, never know when it will happen. Never know if I stop at the store if it will start back up. I have to drive in the right hand lane just in case it dies so I can pull over! I hate it!

Intermitant cold start misfire

Most likely none are related to the computer. Surging idle is often a sign of a vacuum leak and can cause random misfires. Vacuum leak would also cause hesitation. Sensor heater can be a fuse, wiring or bad sensor. What's the window doing?
