How to change high mount brake light bulb in a 2002 lincoln navigator

Instructions

- 1 Open one of the rear doors of the LS. Position yourself on your knees in the back seat, facing the rear deck or rear dash.
- 2 Remove the cover from the high-mount brake light assembly, by hand. Pull the cover toward the front of the vehicle. Do not pull extremely hard, or you will break the clips that mount through the deck from the trunk.
- 3 Pull the old light bulbs out of the high-mount assembly. Wrap the new bulbs in a paper tower prior to picking them up. Insert new bulbs into the assembly, by hand. Do not touch the bulb lenses with your hands directly.
- 4 Install the high-mount cover onto the rear deck and push the cover toward the rear glass to lock it in place.

Pull back trunk liner

Remove 3 nuts holding
tail light housing on

Pull housing away from body & replace bulb

I have a 2005 Lincoln Town Car. My directional signal on the left side has started to click faster than the left side. All lights appear to work properly.

Sounds like you checked this...but when one side flashes faster than the other...usually the fast side has a burned out bulb in front or rear...Be sure to check all blinking lights...including the side marker lights on your Lincoln...stays on when turn signal is engaged on same side front...:)

Remove the headlight Assy
2 screws you can see on top
1 screw down in the back on bottom

Then screws,cover,seal & bulb

Do not touch the bulbs glass

How do you get to the left brake light bulb to change it?

Open trunk,pull trunk interior/liner away from back left corner
Remove three nuts, that hold tail light housing
Remove housing and replace burnt out lamp
They use an extended duty lamp/bulb,you may not find that
I add, that most China Made bulbs, don't last a year. So look for a Wagner, made in Mexico,France etc

Firmly press down on the brake light cover. Press down into the rear deck. This will release the bezel from the teeth on the metal housing. Now slide it forward ( toward the front of the car) while holding it firmly pressed down into the rear deck. Once removed you will see how the metal teeth on the bottom of the metal housing bracket bit into the plastic bezel.

Replace rear window brake light bulb

I just had to do this, and it isn't all that easy or quick. First, gently work the gray, carpet like cover loose from the area around the tail light ,(this may give you a little trouble). Once you have done this, you will see three silver nuts. These must be unscrewed. The lower left nut must be accessed through a hole next to where the trunk lid fits. (The screws are permanently attached to the lens housing so will not drop into obscurity when the nuts are removed). After removing the nuts, GENTLY work the lens housing away from the car. You may need a screw driver to unseat the housing, but just be gentle.

You will find three bulbs inside the lens. The brake light bulb is on the lower right side. Simply pull the old bulb out and insert the new one.

Just reverse these directions to reassemble the housing.

Cannot get old bULB out of right rear brake light.

I recommend Autozone and they can help you but the owners manual should show you how but if it does not give Autozone a try

LINCOLN ls bRAKE lIGHT REPLACEMENT

One of 2 ways.......

#1) mounting screws on the exterior of the brake light lens.

#2) in the trunk behind the carpeting, usually this is the easiest way. either way the bulb is held in by a twist lock bulb holder.

To change teh bulb you need to get behind the card board covering inside the trunk area behind that light assembly and unlock the light holder by turning it counter clockwise then pull out. Replace the bulb then put it back. Make sure you lock it in place by turning it clockwise to activate the locking clips. The screws on the outside don't really do anything except hold the molding piece in place on the outside.

Lamp Assembly -Stoplamp Removal and Installation

Remove the luggage compartment scuff plate.
- Pull to unsnap.

Position the luggage compartment side trim panel aside.
1. Remove the pin-type retainers.
1. Position the luggage compartment side trim panel aside.

Remove the stoplamp assembly.
1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
1. Remove the three nuts.
1. Push the rubber grommet through the sheet metal and remove the stoplamp assembly.
- If necessary, install new bulbs.
