I have the same problem with my 99 alero too. I have to put it in neutral when i am coasting down a hill or a slow speeds to keep it from dying and if it does die it starts back up with no problem. Taking off is also a problem, i cannot give it slow steady gas otherwise it will die, i have to pump the gas and kick the rpm up to about 1 1/2 or 2 before i begin giving it steady gas but once it gets above that it runs just fine until i have to stop again how do i solve this problem?

So I guess that would be the same as the Idle Air Control Valve for the 4cylinder

If it is a V6, most likely it is the Idle Air Control Module (IAC). It screws into the side of the throttle body.

2003 Oldsmobile Alero starts and then dies. I've put new crankshaft sensor in it and fuel filter. Battery is good and the fuel pump is working. The security light isn't on, what else could it be?

Question edited for clarity and typos.
Question moved to model category.

It is a known issue. Fuel pumps can work, but not provide enough pressure, so you need to test with a pressure gauge. There is also a Pressure Regulator. Have a read of this.

My 1999 grand prix stalls and dies at stops.

My Pontiac Grand Prix is also a 99, it has 216,+ thousand miles on it, it runs great, idles good, I need to replace the oxygen sensor tho as it shuts off on me while driving or sometimes coming to a stop. You might try checking the fuel filter and pump as well.

2000 Alero idles low and dies when stopped.

How does it idle when you first start or idle when hot.
On the top of the air intake tube there is a small screw which should when screwed in speed up the idle and if it dosent work or it idles fine when cold or warm at idle then its your GEARs are binding up and there's not to much you can do about that ........sorry

99 olds alero; fuel pump and inst. panel isn't getting power

fuel shutoff switch is actually a fuel pump relay in the relay box under the hood, but it is not unusual for a fuel pump to work on and off before it finally dies. but it is a good idea to check the relay first.

try swapping it with the horn relay (if the horn works). pay attention to the direction the relay is in. on GM's, it's possible to put them in backward or even miss the connectors completely.

you also want to check for proper power and ground in the relay socket.

My 99 Alero starts up then dies after 1 second. I

check air flow duct where the throttle valve is . check the pvc valve . make sure it isnt stuck open. check the egr valve . it will stick open stall out motor .use a scanner it will tell you if you got egr valve problems. check fuel pressure. it could be stop up fuel filter bad fuel pump fuel pump relay.your car problem sound like a major vacuum leak . change spark plug and wires if they have not been change in a while. it could idle air control. hook a scanner .it could give you a code.
