The steering on the 2003 corolla returns to the center position after a turn ,to quickly, feeling like its spring loaded. All my other cars, the steering wheel returns smoothly to the neutral position as the car straightens out. Is there any way of dampening out this sudden return of the steering wheel after a turn?

SOURCE: 09 Corolla vague steering

i have reduced the air pressure in the two front tires. made a big difference. the cost is a slight decrease in fuel mileage. more tire wear???? worth it though.

SOURCE: it will hang at high idle for a second before finally returning

there is a damper on the carburettor that can be adjusted to allowe the return a little quicker. this will be a bell looking item right near the accelerator link and a possible vacuum hose attatched to it. you should be able to adjust it up and down.

SOURCE: The steering just became much harder to turn while

1. Check if the belt on the power-steering pump is not slipping. Replace belt if so.

2. Check for oil leaks (if yes, there is air in system).

SOURCE: When I make a left turn my steering wheel changes is neutral position

Something is loose on your steering linkage or suspension have a pro look at it, use a shop with an alignment rack available.

Key stuck in ignition

on the bottom side of the steering column, there's a hole in the plastic about the size of a pencil. push a pencil or pen into the hole about 1/2 inch. you will feel a spring loaded pin push up easy against spring and turn key. will come right out. learned about this as i was tearing down steering column to get my key out. you will use this alot with a aztek.

Turn signals

not sure what year/model nissan you have, but all pretty much work the same. the blinker lever slides across a spring-loaded detent. when you move it up or down, the detent falls in a knotch. there is a ring on the steering column that will release the detent pressure when it passes, releasing the lever back to neutral. most commonly it is in the blinker assy, that there is a broken peice.

When I make a turn, the wheel won't return to its nornal position

Its hard to say for sure the front end is not spring loaded and will not return unless you turn the steering wheel . But i would take a look at the front end ball joints or exessive ware in the center link or the steering box pitman arm .Its usely ovesice if you have aproblem in the front end riped boots loose parts and so on . Jack it up and see what is moveing it could be a simple thing or you may need some serice front end work . Good luck

Very dull steering feel, wheel stays turned even as i slowly rev

Camber and caster settings are off. Have 4 wheel alignment done by a good shop and save your nice tires. Out of alignment will make steering feel heavy and wear tires fast!

The key wont turn in the ignition of my hyundai santa fe, its a 2005. The steering wheel lock is on and the wheels are straight, the key does not turn at all.

hi from uk please try this ? with key removed try gently turning steerwheel to the right if you feel a slight spring in steering ? hold on the spring and insert key it should work and release lockand turn ign on ? if steering is springing on left ? try as above the same method not unusual for steer lock to prevent turning key as the steering even in straight position ? the necessity to gently release load on lock is req'd to allow key to turn/unlock the steering lock from the steering column practice doing the above each time you fit key to unlock steering and tuning ign on to start hope this helps

My car feels lower than most scrapes everytime i go over a ramp no matter how slowly i take it

Ride height is directly affected by springs. Old warn out springs will sag. Also if the car weighed down with alot of stuff it will cause the car to ride lower. If the springs are OE I would suggest replacing them with quick struts.

Quick struts are a shock absourber and spring assemby.

Serpentine belt

Hi there weekie,

Simple and easy. Really.
  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • The tensioner pulley is on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt off.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done
