Try this: Switch ignition OFF Press and Hold left instrument panel reset button, switch ignition ON to position 1 Keep reset button pressed for approximately 5 seconds until the LCD displays "RESET SIA". The distance to service and the service type " Inspection" will be displayed. To reset distance the left hand button should be pressed before the 'RESET' message has flashed 5 times. The LCD will display 'END SIA'. Switch ignition off The timing to do this is must be about 5 seconds, if this is not working you can try again. I have a Range Rover 2005 and it worked for me.

It could have been as simple as some water grounding your coil for a while (car wash? big rain storm?). If the car is running great now, you probably just have a code stored in the ECU. Autozone and O'reilly usually have a code reader which can be used to delete the code. They won't delete it for you, but they will hand you the device and let you press the button... haha. Either way, you need to get it to someone with a code reader to have the code removed. Any auto dealer can do it for a fee. I'm sure Land Rover will charge you a lot, but you can really go to any dealer. The diagnostic port is the same for all cars after 1996. Btw, the Freelander is based on the Ford Escape... so your local Ford dealer should know how to work on it as well.
Good luck.

QUITE SIMPLE THE SERVICE INDICATOR NEEDS TO BE RESET AGAIN YOU MIGHT HAVE TO TAKE IT TO RANGE ROVER DEALER THOUGH.
SOURCE: how i reset the service engine light on a 2004
There is no reset for the SES. The light is on because the system has recognized a problem with the emissions system. You can use an OBDII scanner to turn the light off but if you don't fix the problem tripping the light it's going to come back on. Have you obtained the codes yet to see what's wrong?
Testimonial: "Great advice. Knows what he's talking about."
