4.8L, 5.3L & 6.0L Engines

  1. Remove the air inlet duct.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the radiator outlet hose.
  4. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.
  5. Remove the thermostat from the water pump housing.

The O-ring seal is integral to the thermostat housing

Thermostat housing-4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L engines


To install:

  1. Install the thermostat to the water pump housing making sure the spring side is inserted into the engine.
  2. Install the bolts.
    • Tighten the bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  3. Install the radiator outlet hose.
  4. Fill the cooling system.
  5. Install the air inlet duct.
  6. Test the system for leaks.

You have to remove the intake and they are under rubber caps in the lifter valley.. 1 is the front and 2 is the rear. This is not a hard job but requires special tools for the fuel line fittings or quick disconnects. They intake gaskets are fairly expensive but if you have average skills you can do this in an afternnon easy.

Location of engine thermostats on 2003 ch2500hd turbo diesel

Check this location.
Between the alternator and A/C compressor, on the top. The other thermostat with vent holes goes toward the rear of the engine.
I believe the temp ratings are different for each.
Let engine cool before working on it.
Clean up an spilled radiator fluid. It will destroy pets liver in 24 hours if they drink it.

What fuse is the horn fuse

Under Hood on top left front tire wheel wheel there is a fuse box. Snap off the top and locate on panel, it should be a 15 amp fuse.

Need to replace thermostat on 2005 Chevy 2500HD 4x4

The thermostat is located in the water pump next to the 2 heater hoses. I think you have to buy the housing to get a thermostat. Not serviced seperately.
