Trying to install a push button ignition need to know which two wires to run to the button, without having to spend hours tracing and guessing. A diagram showing the wires would be great.

You didn't say what color or switch cavity number, My best guess is that the wire your working with goes to the under hood fuse/relay block so unbolt and unsnap it feel the wires it must be a large wire if it hasn't burned yet, if you're looking at a 200 amp set up for anything but the starter you're literally playing with fire, look around the exhaust manifold for wires sticking to it. The toggle switch to the coil may be a anti theft device ( crude but effective ) and the wire to the switch may come from the run circuit on the ignition switch. When the toggle switch is off then there is no power to the coil hence no start. I think this one you will have to spend time tracing out

     Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the key forward until it can go no further, without starting the vehicle.

     Press and hold the "Valet/Override" button located under the dash. Hold the button until the blinking LED light on your dash is solid. Switch your "Valet" button to "Off" if you have a button labeled "On/Off." Your alarm should now be reset. If you wish to enable the alarm, repeat these steps to turn the alarm back on.

     Remove wires from your battery if you wish to temporarily turn off your alarm. Disconnect the wire connected to the main power source to permanently disarm your alarm. Trace all wires connected to your battery and disconnect them. If you have no familiarity with your vehicle's wiring, you should take your vehicle to a neighborhood installer to disconnect the wires for you.

You need to get a diagram and have several switches to run all you need to run, unless this is a" race track" only car. there are wires for Radio, windows, Ignition system, Start, run, ect. Think of al the things that work only with the key on.

I don't think that the alarm can be bypassed once installed. So you'll have to contact the aftermarket car alarm installer that put it in to try to get a new fob that will work with it, or else have it uninstalled by an alarm dealer.

I think the wires need to be traced to deactivate the alarm system, one way or another, because most alarms cut into the ignition or start wiring to prevent the vehicle from running.

Without knowing which radio you have??? I will guess. With the radio OFF, push the SET button, now use the Seek/Scan buttons to change the time. when done, push the set button again.

you don't need them,
run your hot wire directly from battery,and the from push button switch to starter solenoid,but you will still have to have the key turned on to run

check the ignition module fuse.if fuse is good.have car scanned to look for ignition control module fault codes or crankshaft sensor fault codes.by using or have somebody with diagnostic scanner to check for codes this way you wont spend extra money guessing.

I believe it is electrical, and someone,
1.Has tried to bypass the use of the correct ignition key,
2.Or a fusible link for the starter is blown.

Does the ignition key have a chip on the side of it? The 1990 Camaro uses an ignition key with a resistor on the side of it. (Chip)

I had a guy install a radio, cut many wires, then wired it up wrong.
I found fusible links in the engine compartment that were blown, and wires that weren't hooked up correctly.
Took a couple of days, plus the wiring schematic for the engine compartment, and interior, to figure out what he had done!

My suggestion would be to find out if the ignition key fits THAT car first. (Dealer info)
Find out if it's the correct steering column.
Then look under the engine compartment to check out the starter wiring. You'll need 1990 Camaro wiring diagrams.

The prior owner bypassed the ignition switch with that push button momentary switch, because either/or a fusible link has melted through, or it is the wrong ignition key. (And maybe a different steering column complete with key switch!)

The 'Chip' on the key is a resistor, and THE correct resistance is needed to bypass the theft deterrent system.

The ignition wouldn't likely cut power as soon as you switch the key to start. Also, does power return when you let the key return to the "Run" position from the "Start" position?
Did you check the connections to the starter itself? They may be grounding out. If so, try tightening them up, and as well, trace the wires to make sure no insulation has scraped or melted off of those wires.
