I am having a problem with the car turning on and off constantly and when driving on the freeway when i hit the excel orator it looses power to the gas peddal and comes back over and over again. while on city streets it just keeps cutting the whole car off and i have to keep restarting it. I tried to get a diagnostic on it and they didnt find anything the only thing that came up is the speed sensor in the transmission and they said thats not a reason why it would cut off. The check engine light keeps coming on and going right back off. Can you please help me figure out whats wrong with it i would greatly appreciate it. thank you

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Regarding the engine cut off during acceleration I do suspect that you have a faulty MAF (mass air flow) sensor. If the MAF is faulty the engine dies during acceleration which you have to floor or lightly depress the pedal for it to run that too much may make the engine die. The MAF has big contribution on engine performance specially on the idling and vacuum supply.

I do suspect that you have a faulty PCM (powertrain control module) too. One good reason why it does not register the fault code during diagnostic. If the PCM is faulty it may not give power to the MAF which may result to engine failure. Please have this two checked and replaced if necessary.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FIxYa!

It sounds like you have a loose connection to you coil packs. The speed sensors actually could be causing the problem also. If they are shorting out and shorting out the ECU then the car would die. And if they are just momentarily shorting, then it would cause this exact problem. When the car dies going down the freeway does the speedometer jump or the transmission act up?

I have a problem with fuel shortage or Lowe voltage. coast to lite excel oration.

driving , or parked, engine on or off. (sure key on)
please post full clear symptoms.
post all the car does good and bad.
parked, idling and driving.

my guess is, you were driving, then looked at the cluster
  1. and the fuel level dropped fast. (power loss 12vdc that is)
  2. and the voltage gauge, dropped,(well it didnt lie , it did drop)
  3. this means the battery charge is too low, and falling.
  4. the battery is bad. or
  5. the charge system( I never said to replace a part) is bad.
  6. or the battery lugs are rusty. clean them.
battery is 12.6vdc rested, engine off
battery volts running is 13.3 to 15vdc, , if not charge system is upset or battery so bad the charge system shuts down.

After driving over 60 mph, steering gets difficult. On slight turns in that speed on the freeway, steering starts to **** then gets loose, constantly. What should I do?

Check your power steering fluid when hot. If that's ok, then I would suspect the belt slipping. Check the condition of the serpentine belt. If it's loose or shows signs of wear or aging, replace it with a new one.

Overheats ive tried the obvious solutions and it still overheats any suggestions

note if it overheats on the freeway or in city driving. If it overheats soon after you leave the house then in has to be the thermostat. If it overheats at city driving where there are lots of stop and go driving or while you are parked with the motor running, then check the radiator fan function properly. If it takes a while to overheat and tend to do it when driving on the freeway, it is a clogged/dirty radiator. If it looses coolant due to a leak, then it will also overheat. The least likely cause which don't even pertain to newer car is a retarted timing. A retarted timing causes a car to loose noticable loose of power accompanied by overheating. A retartded timing is usually common in older car where timing is adjustable by turning the distributor. Your car is exempt from this.
