Hi terri_32, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
If you are talking about the bands on serpentine belt have been removed while belt is turning. You will need a new belt, but take sandpaper and remove any and all scratches and grooves you cut into pulleys.

I have a chevrolet malibu 2000 v6.i replaced the tensioner and the belt but it keeps coming off

First make sure that you are putting on the right belt. If the belt doesn't fit all the way down into the slotin ALL the pulleys then either it is the wrong belt or one of the pulleys is the wrong one.

If you have changed out any pulley driven component that would be the first pulley I checked! And it is not easy to find the right pulley without going through several junk yards!

My alternator failed on my Chevy truck and I bought a replacement from AutoZone and gave them my old alternator at the same time. But since that same alternator was used on more than one vehicle it has a different pulley on it. So although everything was tight it would pop the belt off in the first 25 miles of driving it.

If that isn't your problem, stand to the side of the car with the engine running and watch for where the wobble is. Although the tensioner can take up some of the slack if one of the components isn't adjusted right to make the belt tight, it will also throw the belt.

How do i change a fan belt on a 2000 chevy silverado

First thing's first; make sure that the routing diagram is still on the pickup. There's a sticker on the front under the hood that describes the way that the belt goes on. If you can't read it, then draw a diagram of how the current belt goes BEFORE you remove it. Next, look at the AC belt. It's a separate belt that is down towards the bottom. If it needs replacing, now is the time, because you have to take the main belt off in order to do so. Next, find the tensioner. If you're not sure which pulley it is, look for a black plastic pulley. If you see more than one, yank on the fan belt and see which one moves laterally. Put a box end wrench or a ratchet and socket on the bolt in the middle of the pulley. It should move clockwise(otherwise you're removing the bolt). This will allow the belt to loosen. While it is loose, slip the belt off the water pump pulley. This is the smooth black pulley, about 4-5" in diameter. Once you have this complete, you can release the pressure on the idler pulley, and remove the belt. Next, route the new belt, and put it on in the same way that you removed the old one. That's it!

3.3L Engine

Fig. Thermostat assembly and related components-3.3L engine

NOTE Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could occur from high-pressure engine coolant escaping from the radiator.
  1. Be sure the engine is cold.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the coolant. Properly disposed of used coolant.
  4. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses. Remove the fan shroud.
  5. Remove the drive belts and the pulley bracket.
  6. Remove the water inlet retaining bolts.
  7. Remove the water inlet and the thermostat.

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2. Be sure to apply a continuous bead of the proper grade and type RTV sealant to the housing.
  3. Install the thermostat with the jiggle valve or air bleeder at the upper side.
  4. Be sure to refill the cooling using the proper grade and type engine coolant.
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.

I'm looking for torque specs on the water pump bolts to the block for 2000 chevy blazer 4.3 L

Fig. Exploded view of the water pump assembly mounting-4.3L engine

fdf58a9.jpg

To install:
  1. Clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
NOTE The water pumps on some of the engines covered may have been installed using sealer only, no gasket, at the factory. If a gasket is supplied with the replacement part, it should be used. Otherwise, a 1 / 8 in. (3mm) bead of RTV sealer should be used around the sealing surface of the pump.
  2. Apply sealant to the water pump retainer threads.
  3. Install or connect the following:

Water pump using a new gasket. Tighten the water pump retainers to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) for 4.2L engines, or to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm) for 4.3L engines. For 5.3L engines, tighten the bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm), then to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). Coolant hose(s) Water pump pulley. Tighten the pulley bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm). Fan or fan and clutch assembly Serpentine drive belt (if equipped) by positioning the belt over the pulleys and carefully allow the tensioner back into contact with the belt. V-belts (if equipped) and adjust the tension Upper fan shroud Negative battery cable
  4. Refill the engine cooling system.
  5. Run the engine and check for leaks.

Hope this help to solve it; rebember rated this post. Good luck.

Serpeentine belt is burning one of the wheel that it wraps around

if it is a chevy like in the pictures, is not hard, you need the remove the belt with a 15' range and remove the pulley, , if the bearing inside the pulley is not good will cause the pulley to lock and damaging the belt, you can buy those pulleys in any auto -part story , they are not expensive

How do you get to the water pump in a 1999 chevy cavalier

Make sure you don't have delco loc 2 or theftloc audio system before disconnecting the battery. You should be able to do this by contacting your local dealer and they run the vin and tell you.

Before you put in the new pump you need to put grease on the splines.

battery disconnected

drain coolant

take out the electric fan

take off the serpintine belt

use a large screwdrive or equivlent to hold the pump pulley and loosen all of the bolts holding the pulley on the pump.

After all are loosened then remove from the pulley and remove the pulley.

Take out the four bolts holding the pump to the engine block.

get a wood dowl or equilent and a hammer and give the old pump a few taps to break away the old seal.

Once the seals broke loose take the old pump out.

then clean up the block,

clean everything with brake parts cleaner

put RTV sealant on both sides of the new gasket and put it on the new pump.

try not to let the gasket move around so the bead isnt messed up to bad.

put the pump in and put all four bolts in finger tight

Torque on pump mounting bolts is 18 ft/lbs

Torque on pulley bolts is 18 ft/ lbs

then the rest is just reverse of removal
