BMW batteries are usually under the rear seat, however there are special terminals under the hood which can also be used. It really makes little sense to work on your own car without buying a cheap shop manual, especially a BMW.
The battery for your car is located in the trunk. There are jumper terminals located under the hood in the front of your car. There is a Red (+) terminal that is under a little black cover on the passenger side of the engine bay near the firewall. Right near that is a silver/gray bolt that is bolted to the frame of the car. This is the negative terminal.
Make sure both cars are and all accessories are off: 1) Connect the Postive cable to the dead battery 2) Connect the Positive cable to the good (BMW) terminal 3) Connect the Negative cable to the good (BMW) terminal 4) Connect the Negative cable to the dead battery 5) Start the BMW. (if you have 2 people then gently rev the engine) 6) Start the dead car. 7) Let both cars idle for a while before disconnecting any cables 8) Remove in the opposite order.
The location of the battery in the BMW 525i series is under the back seat on the
passengers side. To access the battery, grab under the front portion of the
back seat and pull upward with some force. There are two slips into
which the seat is secured. One on the passenger side and one on the
drivers side, again in the front of the back seat. There is not one in
the center.
Quit looking under the front hood...it isn't there. The BMW and Porsche 928 folks love to put the battery in the back. BMW---in the trunk under the right (passnger side) access panel. 928----rear hatback a little left of center under the spare tire. Genius those Aryans.
It is located on the right side of your trunk. First lift off the trunk lining then pull out the side lining to reveal the battery among a bunch of wires. Be sure to reconnect the vent (on the front side of the battery-it is housed in a small gray tube connected to a black elbow) this will prevent gas from the battery building up in the trunk. follow this link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/debbieandmarc/sets/72157612417073268/
